I do this. It seems that no matter how much I proofread errors still get through.

the policy is too strict, meaning the time-frame to edit without having the edited note added is too tight!
it only gives you like 3 minutes to reread your posts for typos and grammar screw ups lol.
not enough for me as a foreign poster

Paula .... just do what I do .... add a blurb at the bottom saying you edited it ... Example --> Edited to fix my fat fingered typos ... even if the 3 mins are not up , there are some fast readers here that may eventually catch a pre and post edit and that can lead to snarky replies.

I didn't know until now that there was a timer deciding whether or not to put the "Reason for editing" box. Not enough edits to recognize a pattern, or losing it in my old age?

It applies only to those who go back and edit their posts to hide what they said or to do other abusive things. Normal post editing is not a problem.

Understood here, Cris. I think my most backward edit so far was taking out a link to live radar when the storm was past and it was pointless to future generations.

And to say we were safe.

And Paula, even reasonable normal editing can become lost and a possible waste of effort in the occasional fast moving thread. Don't be afraid to quote your own post to maintain context in a new response.

hehe thank you for responding cristiano and the others, good to know you are there!

altho i doubt the function is so smart to detect if i edited my point of view
i know you can look back, and that is a good feature as well.
when editing i would be sweet to have bit longer time frame tho to edit typos, grammar, a bbcode on a link as i was trying to figure out today or add a thought to emphasize my point. i don't mean to misuse the edit feature in any way.

anyyyway lol, i am not tooo worried about it either, i have just noticed it that sometimes it doesn't add the notice remark and sometimes it does (or can only i see it in my own posts?)

all is fine tho, hell the smily featurs are making up for everything anyway

You can also write it in notepad or something first, to check for typos before posting it if you're worried about it.

Just leave your typos and grammar errors in. Some people find it cute. And most people can figure out what you meant to say.

Why can I only post 10,000 characters? The photos I can post (compared to what others post) are small.
ETA I should add this happens when I copy my flickr photos or copy and paste from google. Any ideas?

So that we don't see people stopping by to drop the entire contents of the Bible or a 500K text log of their journeys through the mainland sims in a single post?

You're getting this error from image urls?

Is it possible that you are choosing images (copy/pasting) directly from a Google Image search results' page?

Those images are small, but their image addresses are huge. You must click on the image itself, then if you are going to hot link it , right click that image - on its original page. Hopefully choosing images that aren't gigantic. Their addresses are usually much smaller.

If you are hitting the 10k limit on a link, you are doing something majorly wrong. It sounds like you are somehow pasting some encoding of the image itself. As others have said, if you are getting them from google image search or something similar, make sure you click through the the actual image to get the link.

What are you trying to "copy and paste from Google"?

When I want to insert a picture from the internet to a post here, I generally do something like this (using Chrome):
  • Right Click on the image.
  • Choose "Copy Image URL" (not "Copy Image") from the context menu.
  • Paste the result into my SLU post, surrounding it with [IMG] and [\IMG] tags, thus

*[IMG*] http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/image...873_polesm.jpg *[\IMG*]

only without the red asterisks.

You can't, though, I think, do this with pictures on Flickr, or at least I can't see a way to do it, because of the way Flickr display images.

There are two work-rounds. Either you can upload them to your private album at SLU (not to Snapzilla unless they're inworld images of SL) or you can use something like Gyazo to create a screenshot of the Flickr image and store it online, and then use the proceedure described above to copy and past the image url (not the webpage url).

If you don't use Chrome and can't work out how to do it with your browser, give me a shout and I'll try to see how other browsers do it.

ETA Looks like you can insert images from Flickr directly -- see Ann's post below.

For Flickr, you want the BBCode option and really only the piece with image tags, like this:

When all else fails, try going here: TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a tiny URL

There, all your crazy long addresses into one cute lil bite. (Just don't forget to right click and choose a separate window for the image. :> )

I don't think URL shorteners work for embedding images.
