I have provided an incredible amount of leeway and opportunities for free advertising on SLU, through the various classified forums and the new product listings forum. However, I am seeing an increase of banner sized ad images being put into signatures.

This is problematic for a number of reasons. There are people paying for banner ads on the site, and while signature ads don't have that level of visibility, it is still unfair to the advertisers. I am able to offer the amount of free advertising that I do because of that support.

I think a fair compromise is to allow a small logo for your business instead. So, the policy regarding signature images is that small logo images are allowed, but not full banners.

If you have any questions about this, please let me know. I won't be actively enforcing it right away, but please change your signature images if they contain banners for your business.

Edit: to clarify, small means 200X200 or less.

Umm...could someone tell me how to turn on signatures so I can see what actually is there? I've looked and looked but the only time I see them is on my tiny stupid phone because I'm not logged in

Maybe you could define an actual maximum signature image size in pixels as different folks may interpret "small logo" differently.

I didn't want to get that specific, but under 200X200 is a good guideline.

Go to User CP.

In the left column, under Settings and Options choose Edit Options.

Scroll down the page to the section Thread Display Options.

In that section, make sure that the Show Signatures box is checked.

Thanks for clarifying the size, Cristiano. Yay! The cat in my sig is small enough to stay (171x100 px)

For posting, I've always thought a smaller image is classier anyway than a massive side-to-side banner. Banners can be distracting when you're trying to read through a thread, so it is good to limit them just to the paid ones at the top (which I may partake in again soon!)

Does this mean the 234 x 60 element of mine is OK, as that totals only 14,040 pixels?

I made this banner a long time ago when I was able to record in-world videos, width being important due to the moving truck. At the time I chose 234 x 60 rather than a traditional 468 x 60 because I wanted it to be less intrusive than the huge ones I was seeing in the old xstreet forums.
