My Mood:      |  Article quoting policy When creating posts about articles from external websites, do not quote or post the entire contents of an article. A short excerpt or summary is acceptable, but not articles in their entirety. Include the link to the full article, but not the article itself. This is a copyright issue first and foremost, but it is also an unnecessary duplication of text when the full article is already available in the context of the site it comes from.

My Mood:  | I'm guilty of this & should know better! (copy/paste has made me lazy!)  Another forum I used to post on had a big problem with people posting articles & pictures from a sister forum. The poor site owner got some nasty emails & threatened with legal action. The forum nearly got closed down & the owner had to employ some heavy-handed Mods to keep things above board (which made the place a lot less fun).

My Mood: | Again, a reminder, stop quoting entire articles - people are continuing to do it, and I am having to edit posts - which is work I do not want to do, it is a waste of my time. It is simple - do not quote an entire article, I don't care what the length is - you can excerpt a portion of it, but the copyright of the full article belongs to the site it is on, and it is not fair use to repost it fully. |
