This can be seen from the road to Marseille, I just hope it is wind resistant!

We had some snow in February, so I took my camera out to the local park and found that a) taking pictures of snow is hard and b) trees look better with snow.

Jupiter, as seen from Earth

Jupiter, from last year

Getting up close is a big hassle, so I just took this from my backyard, using a modern DSLR and a very old Nikon telephoto lens.

This is a relatively poor image, compared to what most folks can capture after a bit of practice. I never could get the hang of high resolution planetary imaging, so I usually do DSOs (nebulae, galaxies, clusters, etc.), which are much larger and easier, but also much fainter.

I wish I had a camera (that is not on a phone), and the skills to use it. Oh well. Here's a crappy cell phone pic.

I used to love getting on those things, now I'm more than happy to stay on the ground. I must have gotten old. And boring.

Here's some of my older stuff. I had to sell all my cameras during my long unemployment, so there's nothing very recent, but I'm planning to get one as soon as I'm done replacing my computer.

The trick to taking pictures in the snow is to slightly overexpose (around +1EV). Otherwise, the camera evens out the snow to grey.

This picture was taken from my balcony last month:

Seems like I got my scanner to work (I got it some three years ago and it never worked with my desktop, for some reason, but it seems to work fine with my laptop), so to celebrate I'll post this rather dull photo:

Share a photo you've taken!-1987-winter_sky.jpg
It's from a winter night in probably 1986 or 1987. I just placed my SLR on its back on the ground, so it pointed straight up.
Exposure time was around eight minutes, I think, and it surprised me how much the stars had moved in such a short time. The plane coming over made it slightly more interesting.

Everything I've posted so far were scanned negatives, by the way. And now I'm really craving having a camera again.

An attempt at action photography...
I was wishing for a zoom lens, but I suspect I might have had trouble keeping the birds in focus with one. It was hard enough as it was with an 18-55mm lens.

I just returned from Moscow last week, I had a fantastic holiday there, met an online friend of mine and the weather was fantastic and the city fascinating. Though unfortunately due to upcoming victory parades the police were keen on shutting people out of various parts around red square, and I never got into the Kremlin area.

I did however get a photo of that most famous of Moscow landmarks, St Basil's Cathedral.

More burds...

A friend forced me to borrow her Nikon D40 (not quite at gun point, but close). It's been over fifteen years since I last used an SLR camera, so I'm still getting used to it.
The D40 is getting a bit outdated and mine is pretty battered too, but I have to say that it's a hell of a lot more satisfying to use than a compact camera; the extra control is nice, but the feel alone makes it so much nicer.

Love my D40 it was and still is my first step up from a compact.
