Post OpenSim crash at startup after prim create

Like others on this forum, I love the idea of being able to play with a virtual world like SL. However, I just downloaded and installed the latest OpenSim on a utility XP machine. Got it running over my home network, and even uploaded an SL RAW file so I would have someplace to stand. Then I created a simple cube. Oops. This crashed OpenSim. But it left some 'residue' as well. Because when I start OpenSim again, it goes all the way through the start up to the point where it tries to load the one prim (which apparently did get created), then displays the following text "2008-04-11 23:25:48,135 INFO - OpenSim.Framework.Data.SQLite.SQLiteRegionData [DATASTORE]: Loaded 1 prims for region: 6e91484e-c8dc-4052-885f-30d2cc928870" before it displays a bunch of red error text... then terminates. The first question is, why can't I create objects? Second is there a way to clean up so that I don't have to reinstall to get it running again?

ive used it myself and it is buggy by nature. even selecting 'about land' crashes me.
i have no solution for your startup woes outside of reinstalling.

I love the idea of a private sim, and am eagerly following the progress of OpenSim, but it's definitely in the "not ready for prime time" category. So I now see it as something to play with, learn from, even use as studio space, but not as a platform for anything that can't be erased without qualms.

Yes I have the same opinion of it being a nrfpt play toy that...sorry, I thought you were describing Second Life.

If you're using 0.5.4 there is a known problem

If you are using the OpenSim 0.5.4 release version, try changing the physics engine in OpenSim.ini to OpenDynamicsEngine

There is a known issue with the default physics engine in this (alpha) release.

That's what I'm talking about! That worked - thank you so much justin. I appreciate the other's comments as well. Having been involved in software development for well over two decades I am well aware of the vagaries of alpha software - and I am more than prepared to take my lumps in order to familiarize myself with this interesting project. However, without that little golden piece of information (that justin supplied) I was afraid that after I reinstalled (which I did) and reran (which I did) the result would be exactly the same (which it was).

Though it is no big deal to reinstall, I found that deleting OpenSim.db also works (this file is created when you first run opensim).

Thanks again.
