Ok you can pick at my ignorance if you like. I fully admit I am not a computer guru.

How did you guys know his world was hosted on a home pc and connection before he told you?

Struck me it might be important to be able to figure that out.

It's called a reverse DNS lookup. It resolves an IP address to a domain name.
In this case the domain was cable.teksavvy.com the cable part was a dead giveaway and also teksavvy.com is a Canadian ISP.

There are free tools online to do it, here is the first one that popped up in Google Reverse DNS Lookup

The OP may have had the best of intentions, but he presented an offer with all the legitimacy of a scammer. It's entirely possible this was done out of sheer naievte, but that is just another reason why no one took this vr seriously.

As eku pointed out, any creations loaded to this world could be easily copied by the computer owner. It's the equivalent of some random guy tacking an "ART GALLERY" sign on his front door and inviting people to bring in their original art to showcase in his livingroom.

The offer was as risky for the OP as it was for any of us to take him up on it (remember the trolling he's already experienced). But go ahead, send money to that lovely Nigerian prince who needs your help.

i wrote a blog post on this kinda thing the other day because another small start up grid that was up for a month or two shut down.

http://blog.slackdog.com/article.php...serious_biznus

I mentioned in an earlier post on this thread i have lot of respect for those who do it, but i have even more respect for those who do it right. Unfortunately most people have no clue just what a can of worms they are opening if they dont.

And yes i finally made a blog of my own . If you wana coment on that post on the blog you have to create a real account on the cms, I don't have social networking logins enabled yet. I have to make a few auth modules useing the example code supplied by the various sites special for my cms, which takes a little time.

To those who see this as anything more than a phishing attempt, I'm envious of your charity.

You can't log onto the hypergrid with your secondlife credentials. Also I don't think if he was a phisher he would have come back (twice) to yell at us.

Maybe I should start a grid on it....

(my first computer was a challenger 1p Superboard... try googling it.. it didn't have a case, so for my 7th grade woodworking project I made one for it.. I literally did have a computer made out of wood)

4k! hahah actually mine came with 4k .. but because when it was ordered they were out of stock of boards and my Dad had to wait 3 months, they shipped the EXPANDED version with 8k!

I remember several years later when I bought a Commodore 64 and thinking that the cassette player that plugged into it was the coolest thing EVER .. because I didn't have to hook it up to my boom box and fiddle with the record levels to save a program....

I wouldn't mind picking up an old 64 for shits n giggles at some point - I could port Second Life to it, in C= Basic!

10 REM *** c64 SECOND LIFE!
20 PRINT "You are in your sim - what would you like to do ?"
30 INPUT A$
40 PRINT "Sorry, we are experiencing technical difficulties at the moment... try again in 10 minutes"
50 GOTO 20

Hours of fun and just like the real thing!

An interesting little footnote to this whole dramafest:

I'm guessing next is trying to log into SL with the names and passwords of anyone stupid enough to log into DaseinWorld.
