Business: Brazen Women Shapes and Skins | OpenLifeGrid name poaching I was rather alarmed to hear that Briana's name had already been taken on the OpenLifeGrid avatar list. After a quick check of the new registration, I found that Beebo Brink was taken as well. This makes me almost physically sick. It seems that it takes no time at all for people to find a way to abuse the community spirit of both SL and a new world. |

| I'm sorry to hear that Beebo and Briana , it's a sneaky and stupid act by someone or other and serves no real purpose other than griefing .

Business: Brazen Women Shapes and Skins | Nina has released my name and I've been able to reserve it. And I quickly reserved my main's name as well, just to insure this doesn't happen again with someone who is less willing to release. |

Be that as it may, she has willingly agreed to release the names, and that's all that matters. The adrenaline jolt of extreme distress that I'm feeling should wear off in another hour or so.

My Mood: | Nina obviously had no ill intentions, but not everyone is the same, of course. I'm not really sure what can be done about it though. I know if I owned something like openlife, I would love to be able to find a way to reserve avatar names for their namesakes in SL, but the logistics would totally frighten me off. There may be no easy solution, and we may have to view it as being similar, for example, as not being able to register your MSN ID with Yahoo. |

Step 1. Log in a bot. Step 2. Whenever someone tries to register a name, the bot runs it through the people search. Step 3a. If not match is found. Registration goes ahead. Step 3b. IF one is, then you'd be required to use an inworld terminal from that account to register, to prove ownership.

My Mood: | Then they would have to reserve the millions of avatar names that currently exist in SL, many of which are not used, and many that are may not use openlife. You would also have to keep updating the database as new members sign up to SL. There will be many generic names that many people have independently tried to sign up with, and it was a case of first come first serve as to who got it in SL. I agree that no one should be able to take a name (well-known or otherwise) to grief or hold to ransom, but I'm not sure that I agree it's fair to stop people reserving a name that they want to use simply because someone else go there first in registering it with SL. Also, I'm sure that although openlife is based on SL tech, they are going to want to be able to move forward fairly independently, and so you couldn't see them keeping the sign up via SL for very long. |

Use the SECOND LIFE database. Check it, and BLOCK registration if it's a real avatar name, requiring an alternate method of registering with an inworld terminal.
