The main problem is there is a lot of misinformation going out right now, and confusion over what various things are, who is responsible for them, and what is happening. Hopefully more will be clarified soon. In the meantime, don't shoot the messenger but take all of this as very fluid. Things will become clearer in time.

Would say it's part that, but also the ability to have "shared building sessions" in world (mesh building is at least for the time being done entirely in external editors, not in the least because they're more powerful tools for it) Plus through the prim model they have much better control over amount of triangles an individual can place in world and thus the strain individual user puts on the system and everyone around.

The last aspect got pretty abused through the loophole that's AV attachmens of course, but that's another story and doesn't diminish (much) validity of basic concept behind their model.

LL has brought a lot of ire down on themselves by trying to pass SL off as a finished product. It's not. I'm enjoying the ride because I know we're still a far way from the end result, and I'm fascinated by the journey. But for people who expected a product, it's a case of "Are we there yet?" echoing from the back seat on a regular basis.

It's not just the usual alpha/new shiny thing level of confusion. There are a lot of misconceptions and misattributions right now about what is what, and that is contributing to this and making it worse, and adding to the frustration levels. It's not just about not being able to log in yet or things like that. Hopefully the interested parties will be able to clear it up soon. In the meantime, don't kill each other please, and no shooting of messengers.

I just found out about deepgrid from this blogpost: Openlife - Second Life’s open source competitor : The Metaverse Journal - Australia’s Virtual World News Service

It's now clear to me that Adam was talking about something completely different than what I was talking about. When I jumped into (or, as Moo put it, hijacked) the original thread I assumed we were talking about the same thing.

Frankly I think Moo owes me an apology but I know I'm not going to get one so I'm moving on.

By the way, Adam: You never did get back to me when you were asking for volunteers to test out your system, and I said yes. This was during the time that Second Citizen was shutting down, so I expect that my request got lost in the shuffle.

It would have been better if you had kept your mouth shut rather than send out a teaser like the one you did. All you did was allow me to make a fool of myself. Thanks a lot.

(And it's why my Strawbearry Shortbread has two r's in the first name - remember when it would just go down, or quit for some reason, I forget what, and you lost that name forever?)

So, two questions:

1. I've made my name, and did it in that toolbox, too, once I figured that out. (Printessa didn't consider me important enough to swipe mine!)

But there is no way to actually connect to this, right?

And when you do, you have to download something first?

2. Building - this business about meshes. Does that mean that building will not be the same as in SL? That you have to have some sort of outside program to do it?

Does this affect building houses?

Edit to ad: And I wasn't thinking that based on something Quiplash said; I was thinking it due to I thought Adam said so, and I believe lots of people have said so. In fact, I just got done telling a friend last night it was Adam's deal.

You did not make a fool of yourself, and Adam's intentions were not to upset anyone, he was just sharing what he could. You also are not the problem here, nor is Adam. It is the information leakage that is inaccurate and misplaced. You were just being kind and sharing what had already been released, and can't be faulted for that. This whole thing has turned into an unfortunate clusterfuck

There is a lot of frustration going around at this point - please, let's not go at each other or reduce things to personal attacks. This has been wildly confusing for everyone.

Well, I met him some two-and- a-half years ago, when I was but a basic newb.

I had spent my first few months saving up all the money I could lay my hands on, for what I knew not.

It was my little game to see how far I could get on a basic account!

Then one day I saw on the official SL forums a post about this new place these two guys (Adam and Nexus) were opening up on Meins. It said you could "buy" and "own" land there (my quotes; I always quote those) even as a basic member!

So I got in the game and flew to the place, and there they were.

"Is it true I can own land here even though I don't have a premium membership?"

Yes, they explained, and patiently answered my questions, while also dealing with other people.

Took me about 15 minutes, I guess, to decide that I trusted these guys, and that they were stand-up guys.

I understood, of course, that if they WEREN'T, that I could lose the money I paid for the land, because they explained clearly how it worked.

But I was quite sure they were.

So - I gave them my hard-saved 1500 Lindens or whatever it was for a little patch of green to call my own. (And I had enough saved ahead to cover the tier for a while, till I could get my own business up and running.)

These were the first guys in the game to offer this sort of thing. (I'm pretty sure.) Seems historic now, doesn't it?

A few months later, I forget how long, there came this new thing called "islands." Adam (or Nexus, I forget which) contacted me to let me know that they were planning to move to an island, and they hoped I would come with them.

Of course! I said. Then they asked me if I would like to come and choose my land.

No, I said, you pick out some for me. So they picked out a corner piece on Andromeda, which was their first island, a very lovely little section; and I still live on it.

So, Printessa, these two guys have been UNFAILINGLY kind, polite, and thoughtful of their residents, and even fun (though residents are a kind of hard bunch to try to have fun with) for all these years.

In addition, their lands are wonderfully designed, well-managed, peaceful, beautiful, and with a wide variety.

THAT is what is so great about Adam. And that is why I would go to the trouble of going to any world they made.

Well i am going to NinăLand.

Right now i can only handle 2 grids max. And i have yet to be able to connect to the OLG. But i am not exactly....tech savvy .

What is the information on the other grid? I'd like to at least reserve my name. We know what a popular surname Dawson was for LL. We are everywhere.
