You know, I really feel sorry for Immy. Immy's own self-image issues are, unfortunately, causing her to cling to the wrong people and assume that they can do no wrong. It is a trap that many people fall into, and I know I have myself in the past. The end of that road only lies more pain and more self-esteem issues. I just hope she realizes this before she is hurt by it.

I think that's the charitable interpretation. Immy has made multiple statements here about we are misinformed and basing our judgment against Frac's actions on rumors. And yet Immy doesn't seem to have any real information about what Frac was doing with the Emerald logins. Which means Immy's judgment is just as misinformed - if not more - as what she claims has been used against Frac. I doubt it that Immy assumes Frac can do no wrong; she has indicated that she thinks he can. She just doesn't care about the wrongs he has done. She cares so little that she didn't even bother to get the facts about the DDOS attack from Frac before she launched a defense about it.

Immy, I am exactly the same way. I don't approach, and I cling to those I can get. It is a problem many with low self-esteem have. The problem is, if you cling too much, you get blinded by that need to be accepted. I know, I've fallen victim to it many times, both in RL and in SL. It is something that is very hard to recognize and to get past, and something I continue to work on.

If Melanie makes a clear statement that JCool is totally disconnected from Avination, I will believe it, simply because Avination team isn't a tight enough ship for a lie about that not to leak out. Any other coder who sees his code will recognize it, or at least recognize it not being one of the usual coders' contribution.

However the damage is already done, so I suppose a removal of JCool will simply be the tiniest damage control possible. To clear their new viewer, I would suggest a public third-party code review of it, by a well-known and trusted code reviewer.

yep, everyone has to decide for themselves. I personally wouldn't trust Avination at this point.

Especially since the reason listed for removal was breaking SL's ban versus actual illegal activity that could have had him arrested, ruining the trust of thousands of users of Emerald by hijacking them to complete a DDoS attach.

Seems like an odd reason to fire someone.

It doesn't at all, it's the best reason in light of employment law. They'd already stated that they were aware of his history and had done a risk assessment before taking him on. They couldn't just turn around and dump him for that reason, particularly since they had already stated that they have risk mitigation processes in place regarding his access to the grid and reviewing his code etc.

This new information provided by Immy can be considered to be serious enough to terminate his contract and I would think in light of them becoming aware of just how much of a PR liability he is, they've jumped at it. I certainly would have as well. You can't have the employee of your company breaching the ToS of another company that is your competitor and that's the bottom line.

It's definitely nicely wrapped and they had a great out once they realized the hell they were paying for hiring him to begin with.

Sadly though, damage is done and they may have already broken trust for many just by dismissing his prior illegal activities.

Not to mention they didn't actually confirm that Kirsten was going to check Jcools source code, just that they had asked if Kirsten would check it. So the question would be...who did they have checking it prior to this?
