Heritage Key

Wasn't sure if this has been mentioned here on the forums yet. I know there's been some discussion about Rezzable moving their sims off Second Life onto their own grid.

I got a note card in world tonight from Rezzable with the following details:

Quote:
HERITAGE KEY - The Virtual "KING TUT" Exhibition

The Greatest Discovery of All Time!

A Journey of Wonders!

Experience History Like Never Before!

... eight unique areas to explore like "The Valley of Kings" or "The Tomb of King Tutankhamun"
... free membership
... open 24 hours
... guided tours every weekday (3-4 am SLT and 9-10 am SLT)
... customize your avatar with free clothing and accessoires by top designers
... make new like-minded friends in our growing community
Here's the link to their site where you can sign up and download the viewer to their grid

Heritage Key | Unlock the Wonders

I've signed up but not downloaded the viewer yet. I'm kind of sad to see things like The Virtual King Tut Exhibtion leave Second Life. Not sure yet if I'll go ahead and download it.

I had a brief look around it last night. I have to say I really liked the introduction if your a first time user of virtual worlds. Through two large rooms your guided that introduce you to everything you need to know about moving around in a virtual world, teleporting, taking snapshots, settings etc. Your given some free clothing, hair, skins and shapes. Although I did like the explorer's outfit. Kind of reminded me of Myst/Uru.

The actual sim itself of 'The Virtual King Tut Exhibtion' is pretty much as it was in Second Life but on a much bigger scale and with a lot more to see. The balloon ride over Egypt and the Nile was pretty cool. Arriving in the Valley of the Kings you can go down into the tomb of Tutankhamun and then teleport to a virtual museum where they have various artifacts on diplay. The museum was very nice to walk around in, click on various speech boxes, and an explanation was given over the item, how it was crafted etc. All in all I was very impressed with it.

Now that Opensim is reasonably mature there will be a greater drift of content from Second Life to standalone Opensim-based mini-grids, like the Heritage Key world.

What we will then need is a customised avatar, with a passport (same user id and password) to be able to visit all these unconnected sites. Perhaps even a single web portal where we can 'teleport' to any we choose (simply logging out of one then logging into another, while a 'Teleport' progress bar hides the actual log-out/log-in process.

This is what 'Hypergrid' is - all the big grids support it (although funnily Heritage Key does not.)

The hypergrid is not exactly what I was referring to. The Hypergrid has got some bad publicity in various forums with the main (perceived) complaint that it puts content theft on a trivial level (meaning content theft is very easy with hypergrid-linked regions, compared to disconnected regions). None of the main creators in SL that I interviewed for an article a while back would touch the OSGrid because of the Hypergrid. I think that is the reason many independent standalones and mini-grids (especially those with an economy) shy away from Hypergrid.

What I was proposing was a way to connect all these disconnected grids via a web portal whereby an avatar could visit all these grids via a spoofed teleport (simply logging out of one then logging into another, with a 'teleporting' progress bar masking the logout/login process, but with the ability to have unified login credentials, and persistance of the avatar's appearance, but without the inventory from one following you to another.

I am not at all that any of this is achievable, it was more of a wish-list.
