Question Who is allowed to script in Blue Mars?

Ok, so I finally installed Blue Mars and the developer kit. I won't start in on a rant about that sad avatar customization. Although, the barbie doll was lit and rendered well.

Anyway, after looking over the developer tools, I noticed I didn't see any way to add scripting. I've heard mention of lua and C++. So, my question is who is allowed to script in Blue Mars? Can a regular content creator script their own objects? Or, is that only controlled by city/block developers?

Content creators can script their objects, although the scripting functionality is only in the City Editor right now. That may change with the new update as it has been asked for by several scripters.

I have been practising using the Crysis Sandbox 2, and getting familiar with the incredible Flowgraph utility. I will continue to practice until they include the functionality in the Item Editor.

The item and block editors are very stripped down. The city editor has like 13 menus, and the Sandbox 2 editor for Crysis games has like 17 menus.

From what I see (and I have not got into scripting yet, just terraforming, and creating 3d objects), anyone can write stuff, but to fully test it would require a city dev package, or using Sandbox 2.

Do you mean it might be in yesterday's new release or the next one?

Thanks for the replies

I'm really happy to hear that I'll be able to script my own objects. That could have been a deal breaker.

But, I don't recall seeing a Crysis Sandbox 2 in the developer kit. Is it a separate download from another site?

Blue Mars client is based on the CryEngine 2 game engine developed for the Crysis game series. Sandbox 2 editor was first developed for modding crysis games, and stripped down versions are what you are given in the Blue Mars dev kit.

See these sites for more info:

CryENGINE® 2 Manuals

Crytek's Official Modding Portal | Crymod Downloads

Eventually Blue Mars will have its own documentation, right now its mostly "read the crytek docs"

To get the Sandbox 2 just download the free Crysis Single Player Demo, and when it is installed you will find the Sandbox2 folder, with a launcher in there to install the Sandbox. You must install the game, whther you intend to play it or not, as the Sandbox2 needs some of the Games files to work.
