Pleasure Planet has Imploded

Well I tried hard and long and fought the good fight.
I even did things I probably shouldn't have to try and keep it alive but I realized I was beating a dead horse.

The general public just won't support a commercial grid running on the Open Sim OS so I have sold the domain and the rights to a very nice couple and they are going to try to see if they can make it fly.

So after almost a year and several thousand dollars I have officially closed the door on PP and sold the key.

Good luck to the new owners and I wish you well!

Now I can really get back to work on my RV and building the new store in Zindra!

It was fun but costly.

The biggest issue was that people never came through with delivery promises or did what they said they would.

Even when I paid or offered to pay I'd get nothing. Most people just don't trust the OS system yet or just never did things they offered to for whatever reason.

I love building full sims and the first 3 times I had to rebuild the welcome center were fun but the 4 times after that were a PITA lol. I still have .oar files of the original 12 region grid so you never know, I may slap them up on the OS grid just for shits and giggles.

It was a cool place to play for a few months. Only wish I was rich enough to keep it open until after LL finished screwing the pooch with the whole adult thing.

Lots of people are going to be looking for alternatives real soon IMO.

The biggest problem these OS startups are going to have is getting content to stick. Not everyone can plan and build a 30-sim themed continent. Most anyone competent isn't going to do it for free. And then, once you've done that... then what?

As OSGrid admin in residence; I'd say go for it.

Although I think with Adult content on OSGrid, we do need to start thinking up a policy like LL to keep things seperated for those who don't want to view mature content. Perhaps some kind of opt-in-to-view-adult-sims list.

(Unlike SL, we dont have age verification, nor any 'adults-only' policy. The only rules are 'have fun', and 'dont ruin anyone elses.')

Well there's a couple things there. We really didn't have any adult content per se and I was already kicked off of the OS grid once for a couple advertising pictures that were barely PG so I'm kinda "eeeh" on OS Grid.

A couple of the regions, like Tortuga and Grunge Town just came out pretty cool and took a lot of work so I may park them in OS just to let people play on them. Kind of like a monument to my failure lol.

I think part of the problem was a common missconception that you HAD to have adult content or be a pixel sex fiend just to play there. I just built a big world and only let adults in. It was never designed strictly to be a sex world.

But with no functioning economy and content creators scared to come play in OS it just kinda sat there empty.

We did have over 100 members at one time and a few region owners but without an economy you can't rent land and without content creators there's nothing to draw new players in.

No economy + no rentable land + no new content = No new player retention.

I tried for months to get an ATM system or in world money but no one ever came through and without money it's basically just an expensive hobby.

Man I wish the OS would start using Fortran scripting language. I can punch a mean hole in a fly card but I never really studied LSL or Mono so I couldn't just do it myself.

Now if you had said you were beating a dead horse (BDSM/Bestiality/Animanecrophilia) you might have got more customers! There must be a group in SL who are into just that!
