Heaven, to keep its beauty,
cast them out, but even Hell
itself would not receive them
for fear the wicked there
might glory over them.
| "It is demonstrable that things cannot be otherwise than as they are; for as all things have been created for some end, they must necessarily be created for the best end. Observe, for instance, the nose is formed for spectacles, therefore we wear spectacles. The legs are visibly designed for stockings, accordingly we wear stockings. Stones were made to be hewn and to construct castles, therefore My Lord has a magnificent castle; for the greatest baron in the province ought to be the best lodged. Swine were intended to be eaten, therefore we eat pork all the year round: and they, who assert that everything is right, do not express themselves correctly; they should say that everything is best."

| Ali, since your only other post on SLU posed the question "Do you guys think it would be possible to do medical research on second life? Maybe like psychotherapy work on depression or something..." I can only assume you are looking for the "best world" in which to do "psychotherapy work on depression." The answer to your question is, of course, the real world. Offering these types of services in a virtual world is not ethical. If you are a mental health care professional, you already know this. If you are not, then you shouldn't even be considering offering these types of services - in any world. Hope this helps |

My Mood: SL Join Date: 27 Sept 2006 | For most of us, for most of the time, the best world is probably the real world. As far as virtual worlds go, I still haven't seen anything that, all round, comes close to Second Life.

| Pity, it pulls a lovely subtle turnabout on itself. Oh, and since the Schild's Ladder universe is a lossless finite state automaton it doesn't matter which side of the Border you're on... everyone has the right to become an immortal posthuman cyborg and the worst that can happen to you is an embarrassing time-out if you happen to get stuck with a bad geometry in your body trail... But, who's Alfred? There's nobody named Alfred in the book. |
