| The direct NDA is for city developers. (people who are developing a world as opposed to items) Item developers get the clickthrough. Oh, I love CryEngine 2. That is all.

"I call it purring, not growling," said Alice. "Call it what you like," said the Cat. |

| If you want to test drive making your own environments in CryEngine 2, there is a cheap way to do so Polycount - View Single Post - Sandbox Editor 2 [Crysis] - MASTER THREAD All the skills you learn working with Crysis Wars mods can be transferred to Blue Mars. Something that is ultracool in the Crysis editor is the creation of terrains, you could probably even use terrains you make in the Crysis editor for Second Life, if you target them correctly. Not only that, but painting terrains realistically is very fun. It makes me wish we had this kind of feature in SL. |

| Hello everyone. I saw this thread in relation to Blue Mars and was interested. I looked over some of the questions brought to Jim. It sounds really great and I might give it a test or two. The one thing that buggered me though was that in order to do non-human avatars, I would have to be a City Developer. Quote:

| @Redshift, the avatar appearance tools in Blue Mars will be extensive and there needs to be a standard reference avatar for clothing, animations, and general scaling in the the Cities. Once its up and running I imagine there will be more rigs introduced by either residents or Avatar Reality. I think everyone is putting too much emphasis on how controlled it appears to be, it is really up to the city developer yes, but its also up to the cities residents what rules and policies are going to work out. It is very much a blank canvas, as a city developer I can strip away all the VW client stuff if I wanted to and make a FPS multiplayer battle with my own custom HUD etc.. this is what is meant by control. Control for a City Developer is more about technical limitations and what the final product offering will be. For most cities using the full VW features (commerce/residences/shops) there would be no reason to restrict anyone. @mcgeeb, everyone can become an item creator. Maybe you are in the next batch of registrants who should be contact this week. I wouldn't hesitate to send a support request if you don't hear from them soon. Remember its still in closed beta, they are slowly opening the floodgates. In general the cryengine2 is just brilliant! It does so much nice shading on your objects that you don't need to be an expert to make some really nice looking stuff, even using very simple textures. I would counsel anyone thinking that creation in Blue mars might be only for professional 3d artists to toss out those misconceptions with the bathwater. It is a great environment for user created content with several easy entry points for beginners. Looking forward to news about open beta, -See you on Mars! |

| No buttons pushed here There has been a fair amount of heated discussion over Blue Mars here and on the SL forums that contains tons of mis-information that I have mainly stayed out of. As you may be able to tell I have some personal stake in Blue Mars at this point, and am really excited about the potential. I believe that when the gates open people will be very impressed with all Blue Mars has to offer for both the casual and creative player. -w |

| an 8xxx class NVIDIA card and a dual core processor (Pentium dual core and above) will run Blue Mars just fine. I've got an 8600 GTS which is more the lower end of the scale and I do not have performance problems. Sure the frame rate could be higher but its comparable to Second Life performance for me, and usually better. |

Business: Roadkill / Bruiser's Skins | I've been in beta for about 6 months. My specs run it just fine: Windows 7 64-bit 4gb RAM Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ 1920x1080 Resolution (About a 700$ custom built computer, maybe 2 years old now so probably more like 500 and a 150.00 monitor, nothing too fancy) I see having to scale some things down in the future for more cluttered areas.
