From the YouTube description:
The default walking animation for the new litesim.com female avatar

It looks like they are in beta.
We"ll be back!

Gareth, I understand that this is going to be Litesim's "Ruth"?

Aren't animations done in the client anyway? The realXtend client has custom animations for avatars (that look much nicer than the default SL ones.)

They are yes, what you see there is me working on linking up the new fancy mesh properly with the BVH animations from SL, using the default walking animation to be precise.

Well it is definitely a more natural walk.

That's not a connected client though?

No, if it was you'd see it walking around

That's from the modelling app.

Though you're just dripping with sarcasm, i'll still respond:

Yes, yes you can. Just so long as it ain't illegal in the state of california or the united kingdom. Some of the servers are in california, some are in UK, some are in russia and the company is incorporated in the UK, I won't hold users to russian law though.

She's a bit anorexic, me thinks....

I think that everyone is concerned about a. IP rights and b. creative freedom, in general. No other grid can be without to be a true virtual world.

By "IP rights" I presume you mean copyright? I'm not commenting just yet on the approach to that issue, but on the issue of "creative freedom" I can comment:

Do whatever you like unless it damages the service itself, harms other users or is prohibited by law. This means anything.

Looks a lot like Victoria.

DAZ 3D - Victoria 2.0 Reduced Resolution Figure

I don't think you can use DAZ mesh in gaming...

"I call it purring, not growling," said Alice.

"Call it what you like," said the Cat.

Looks interesting, why are you not able to use those meshes exactly?

They're copyrighted, and the license is stipulated only for use in rendering. No redistribution on the mesh.

There are programs to generate humans that have licenses friendly to gamedev - MakeHuman is a common program that game creators use. (and probably your best bet, being open source) Quidam is also good, and Poser Pro provides some meshes which are licensed for gaming.

But Victoria isn't licensed for games... just FYI. You can use her in a 2d way (the renders) but not the mesh itself.

Then i'm going to avoid it - makehuman is the one that i'm using already btw, it has a wonderful python API for programmatic creation of meshes.

Just a small point - i'm not interested in games that much, i'm interested in generic virtual worlds. If you want to you can build games on top, but the VW itself isn't a game. Kinda like the web can be used to build games (all those flash games and HTML-based RPGs come to mind), but isn't a game itself.

Quidam and poser are both out of the question, with Quidam being the worst:

Fees are determined based on the number of active members of the universe so that the editors pay a faire price, adapted to the effective use of avatars.
This would make free accounts completely impossible, and the problem with both these packages is that they're proprietary software - which means no modification and redistribution to users is allowed.

Yeah, its too restrictive IMO. But I included it as an option.

I personally think the *best* way is to make your own figures, its not even that hard these days to whip out a human figure that's better than the SL one. Why are you trying to fit it to the SL rig? It's not that great.

I hope that MakeHuman didn't use anything from Victoria, as the mesh just kinda "stood out" to me. (using a similar volume). DAZ has slapped wrists on people who have used the figure as a basis for games before (first one having been modders for the Sims, in my memory)

Considering that the base mesh for makehuman looks nothing like that, and it works by applying numerous morphs to the base mesh I can't see how this could be true.

It may look similar because both are of course realistic human models.

wireframes... textured doesn't tell you anything. But there are other ways to even obscure that, especially if one is a nurbs modeller.

The look is in the general proportion of the body, Vicky had flaws in her proportions, especially versions 2 and 3. Version four is a wholly new mesh so doesn't share their problems.

A lot of game people used Vicky by making a nurbs mesh around her body as well. Anyway, I'm just telling you there is a similarity. Make of that what you will

There's a slight similarity, but that's inevitably going to happen when trying to model realistic humans.
