Pleasure Planet shuts down

The last of the 6 initial owners/ builders quit last week when he lost his RL job.

I can't run a whole grid by myself, my grid-fu is weak. I can do a restart or a simple load-oar but I was just the front man. I can't afford to hire a full staff and all the original players dropped out one after the other. Same as most of the help I hire in SL!

I shouldn't say that, I had one Lady who managed 5 sims for me for 3 years in SL. THAT was dependability.

Anyway, since there is no one left to run it Pleasure Planet will be closed when the servers crash! (or the time runs out on the server rental lol) Anyone wanna buy an adult grid with over 100 members and 16 regions worth of builds?

Over 100 members visited so the thousands of dollars I spent were worth it! lol

Go trash the place and take pictures. lol

Last one out shut off the lights!

Ouch man, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear it; it wasn't my cup of tea, but you seem really nice and of all the other people who've got grids up and running, you seem the least skeevy (ironically enough!).

I hope that you still stick around SLU, and maybe you can pick it up again further down the road. Running a grid doesn't seem to be any different to being a landlord in SL; so many people pick it up but only a handful can seem to make it into anything viable.

And I hope that the RL job situation improves too.

Thanks, yeah it sucks but I can't run a whole grid by myself.

I'd do it all again though, I love projects like this. Maybe only 2 out of 6 hit good but when one fails you just start another!

We lost a couple people due to other projects. They just got interested in other things and drifted away. A couple due to the economy, and 1 just flat out disappeared!

Hard to do anything under those conditions.

I am turning an RV into a Pirate Ship in RL so I'm kinda busy anyway! lol

Thats a real shame. It wasn't my thing but i'm sure it would have been really popular after the changes in SL. Is there no way you can find some technical experts to come on board and help you out?

Well it looks like the rumors of our death were slightly exaggerated!

A new grid god has emerged from the ether like an avenging demon and shaken most of the old information from the database.

It is currently being shuffled into a new central data bank to match the new more powerful grid server.

We should be back on line by the first and even better than before, we will have money!

During the upgrade we will be installing the new VWUniversal exchange system. This allows you to carry a balance of real world funds into other virtual world grids currently running. Take your money with you when you grid hop!

Anyway watch this space! we'll be baaack!

Oh and I'll get some pics up of the RV soon! It is a fun project =)

Interesting.

Also, that was fast.

Yeah it seems my fat fingers didn't mess it up as bad as I thought.

We are still in negotiations and hammering out details but keeping the grid alive comes first so we are rebuilding now.
I have had a lot of e-mails and well wishes and want to thank everyone for the support! We did have over 100 members join in our 2 short months of Public Beta. That's not bad at all. (Who had 2 months in the poll?)

We can sit down later and smoke some has...eeer I mean hash out the details but we need to get the grid back up and running first.

This one sounds interesting - how are you handling it? OGP or hypergrid? To my knowledge neither has support for money transfer yet so i'm curious how you're going to get it working.

The VWUES is a separate dedicated secure server & database handled by a 3rd party financial company.

You open an account there and can buy and sell game funds on a live exchange much like SL's. You get a private account code number to use when setting up vendors. Vendors can be set up in any grid running OS and is even compatible with SL.

It works with a script you drop into any prim. Touching that prim then opens a menu that lets you enter your code to link it to your account and choose whether to make the prim a vendor or a rental box.
For a customer touching the box gives 2 options, "See my Balance" and "Pay this Vendor".
All funds go straight into the coded avatars account.
You can use any avatar in any grid to set up a box. It's all about your secret account code for the linking.
You can set up a vendor in any OS grid or SL and have your products for sale in that grid in moments and all money is handled outside of the grid and sent to your chosen avatar.

It is an especially cool system for me as it comes free with the new grid god, lol and it takes all the money module hassles right out of my hands. This system also has options for people in other countries and without Paypal to be able to buy game funds.

Cool system, though i'd think real user<>user transactions are going to be important eventually.

Yeah user to user is tricky right now. Basically you have to set up a vendor with a single prim in it and let your friend buy it from you.

The in world money module will be active only for land transfers for now. It's just not ready for prime time.

There is another system being worked on as we speak that lets you tie your SL avatar to your PP avatar. That way you can use Lindens to buy game money. The big problem with that is that you have to be able to buy Lindens for it to work. This will cut out anyone not a member of SL or unable to buy Lindens.
