Hippo new release!

For all you Hippo Viewer runners out there a brand spanking new release hit today. It is based on the Linden 1.21 and has some cool additions. This makes version 0.4.0.

I got a couple screenies up on my blog if you wanna see them.

A bit lame...

As I just see this posting, Hippo Viewer is now a 99% fork of Cool Viewer 1.21.6.0 R6 as in their SVN (with RLV removed) which is 2 months old. We are 5 releases ahead at CV R11 by today.

It's good to have another version of CV, even though a bit older. Would be nice though to give some credits to Henri rather than just renaming tabs and making fancy statements like 100 groups. But hey, it's easier to pretend it's someone's own work.

I'm uploading now CV 1.21.6.0 R11 and 1.19.0.5 R43 with new internationalized date and time settings.

@Evo

And your point is? All credit is given to LL . It is even a requirement to use CV. You may want to read further about GPL if that interests you.

Someone said "they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

CV is updated on my blog.
Enjoy!

Heehee I never accused of no credit to LL and I know well about the GPL
I was trying to get some idea of what percentage of your viewer was your own code as you claimed the Hippo Viwer was a 99% fork.... but if your viewer is say (as an example) a 99% fork of the LL one..... etc.

*defence without being accused is a sign of guilt.

So...
What you are saying is the Hippo viewer is 99& based off of your own viewer?

Out here in user land one gets a bit confused with who made what since with open source you never know who made what first.

I have not used your viewers. I love Kirsten's but see that she is concentrating on OLG only now. Is your viewer easy to configure for standalone use?

Why don't you guys take a step back and read first?

Hippo OpenSim Viewer

"Includes all patches from the Cool SL Viewer. Those changing the look and feel of the viewer are disabled by default and can be enabled in the new "Hippo" tab in the viewer preferences."

I have nothing against this, it's a good thing for the end user. What I find a bit lame are things like to rename the Cool Preferences to "Hippo" and even leave the RLV in there, grayed out . Then call it "the new "Hippo" tab" *laughs*. Lame it is.

'nough said.

@Macphisto

If you have ever used Nicholaz', CV is pretty similar from look and feel. It adds a lot of patches and features that make it pretty stable compared to other viewers. Comes in Windlight and non-Windlight (faster on older hardware).

And no, I don't "make" it, Henri Beauchamp is behind the Linux build. I do the Windows versions and Hyang Zhao builds for Mac.

You can try it in parallel to an existing viewer.

Common courtesy is about giving credit where credit is due. Get over it.

P.s. For the record, -alot- more people know of the Cool Viewer than the Hippo one, so I doubt there is jealousy involved. Boy even explicitely states that Cool Viewer isn't made by her.

Nobody minds if Hippo are using CV as a base. It makes sense to use an established 3rd party viewer with lots of fixes and improvements for that. But if it is true, Henri should be credited for the work that is being derived from.

Mac posted this thread as helpful information to anybody that appreciates it. (not speaking for him at all). If Boy has a problem with Hippo then he should probably discuss it with that developer first to resolve his issues rather than comming here to smear them.

So what do you want? Credit's right there. What are you asking for?

Did you send a message to that guy? He doesn't post here and isn't even registered, so what do you want us to do?

To say that it's 99% based on your viewer is kindof ridiculous, especially when you show a link saying (with credit, quite clearly) that it's incorporated the patches. Your viewer is 99% based on the LL one.

Joshua, you should read the whole thread again instead of pumping up your pointless amount of postings.

It is not "my" viewer but I find it simply "lame" to rename features and pretend to have developed them.

But honestly, I think it is good that Hippo uses the CV code (which Henri, not me, develops) as it improves the stability and experience for all. That's all.

Happy new year

Boy, I think you ought to figure out how to raise complaints reasonably instead of being obnoxious and a prat.

You haven't offered any evidence that anything was renamed or "pretended." The one link you shared shows credit was given right on the site.

Instead you were astronomically rude when questioned about your allegations, and thus made those allegations look ridiculous. My post count is irrelevant, but good job on the personal attack. Does Henri know you make him look bad?

Joshua, stop trolling here. I stated facts everybody can verify. If you are too lazy to download and try the viewer yourself it is utterly your problem. But then don't tell people they are liars because thats what you did. Besides that I am able to read code.

That's my last posting.

Um, you, and your month old join date, and your 18 posts, seem to be the only one trolling. You made an accusation, I asked for proof, you posted a link to a release page stating, quite clearly, that credit had been given.

I'm supposed to download your viewer and then-- what? Discover it looks identical to the LL one? What's your point?

I still don't get what you're complaining about. You said they didn't credit the developer of Cool Viewer, but then you showed me a link where they did credit him. You're also not the developer, yet you're here "defending" him and making numerous personal attacks on his behalf. Are you just bitching because the patches were incorporated into a viewer that wasn't the CV one? I don't know what to tell you, maybe you ought to look at what the GPL license entails then if you expect Henri to release patches and not let anyone else incorporate them.

From your entrance into this thread, which was simply a necro to pitch a fit, you've been obnoxious, rude, and insulting. That you're not even the developer of the software yet you're attacking people who questioned your accusations speaks worlds about you.

The OP was informing users of Hippo that a new release was available. You swoop in for the attack and an obvious bit of self promotion, which really served no other purpose than to garner negative attention for yourself and CV.

He never called you a liar, he presented the facts (that you provided) which countered your claim. However, I will call you a liar, since you were presented again with the fact that due credit is indeed given, yet still refuse to acknowledge that. Yep, that qualifies well beyond the realm of simply misinformed, its a lie. So not only are you a troll, but a lying troll, imagine that..

Ok, one last time. As you find fun in this but still are to lazy to read the thread, let me repeat the statement from the Hippo creator:

"Includes all patches from the Cool SL Viewer. Those changing the look and feel of the viewer are disabled by default and can be enabled in the new "Hippo" tab in the viewer preferences."

He renamed features and pretended these are "new" developed for Hippo. As I wrote you may verify this yourself by downloading the viewer, not CV.

Hippo:

Cool Viewer:

And thats it. Lame.

Again, yeah, we GOT that. He CREDITED the original person who wrote the patches by saying "Includes all patches from the Cool SL Viewer." Why are you still complaining?

Your manners here are abysmal. It's generally well established behavior that you don't go into a community of people and begin personally attacking active members unless you're anti-social and hadn't been raised properly. It's further established as a big no that you don't immediately begin labeling anyone who disagrees with you as a troll for no reason. You're new here, that's just exceptional hubris. That you continue to attack people without backing up and apologizing for how you've acted is upsetting.

Are you involved in any other projects? I'd like to know so I save myself the time and don't download them. And I'll be forwarding this thread on to Henri so he knows the behavior of someone who's trying to speak for his behalf.
