You should be able to just log in without the confirmation email. I did not receive one either but couldn't wait to get onto LCO so I just logged in and viola! it worked.

Hope to meet you inworld sometime.

I have to agree that Lala and company were most welcoming when I logged in for the first time. After setting me up with several sets of complete starter avies, she gave me a few places to go poke around in.

I think what is exciting to me about a new grid is just the potential. In SL, I never bothered learning to build or script, because it was intimating to see what others were doing. Logging into LCO, I wanted to learn to build a house. Or a beach hut. Or a swarm of bees to be scripted to attack unwanted intruders.

I also logged into OL, and while those opportunities exist there as well, the lack of initial support didn't make me want to dive head first into that grid. YMMV.

2. People still believe (wrongly) that Legend City is still being run by the same people who ran Central Grid. Lala, sorry, but you've definitely got an uphill battle convincing people that you're under new management. Better do some good advertising to counteract that, or you'll die before you even get started.

My bet is: whoever first gets a currency system up and running smoothly and safely will be the winner here.

Lektor said: "OLG has been up for a year now and has four islands and four sandbox welcome areas as well as new resident freebie areas in the initial login area.

Sims are NOT cheaper. You can get an entire sim region in OLG for $59 a month with 45,000 prims. Yes, 45,000 prims buildable to 100m x 100m within the viewer, not mega prim hacks."

Lektor, I was talking about Open Space sims, which Legend City has and (as far as I know) OLG does NOT have. It is a viable alternative for those who just want to put a toe into the water. Ask Humps, he's bought one and he's quite happy with it. The lower the entrance price hurdle, the more likely people will decide to buy land to build on.

Also: I am comparing my first few weeks in OLG back in March/April/May with my first week in Legend City, and I can tell you: Legend City has a FAR better handle on customer service and making residents comfortable with their startup than OLG did at their startup. I experienced both, and frankly I preferred LC's style. Being able to discuss matters in live chat with actual customer service reps gets major points from me.

Frankly though, I am developig a concern that, instead of cooperation between OpenSim grids, that there is going to be OpenSim wars as a larger number of grids compete for the same number of, or perhaps a growing number of, users. The fact that some people seem VERY touchy about "their" grid bothers me a great deal. We should be able to compare and contrast the various grids without coming across as sales lackeys for Christ's sake.
No worries I was just taken abit aback at first. Like I said, I don't want to start a grid war either and hope that type of atmosphere doesn't develop. I'm sorry you had an uncomfortable experience in the chatroom. I've seen a few instances of that, but for the most part we're a friendly bunch.

Cheers!

I have to agree with the above comments. It is the welcome and customer support that set's Legend apart for me. Whilst Legend does run better for me than the other open grids that is probably down to my ineptitude with all things technical. The thing about Legend is that was overcome by the incredible support I got from the off.

The Legend staff are really helpful, so much so that they have even wandered into my sim as I was building just to check everything was going ok and if I had any problems. On a couple of occasions I needed some info and just logged onto the website and opened 'live help' where I was dealt with immediately.
I hope this does not change as Legend grows because in my view it is probably their biggest asset.

In the week I have been there the new mainland has changed from being empty with numbers for names to all the different regions having names, new welcome area being built and sims starting to be populated. It really is all very exciting. I can see in a couple of years I will be regaling n00bs with tales of 'when I joined this was all fields'

There is a real sense of community growing as well. Desjah has bought a sim next door but one to mine and we were both chatting with MoxZ yesterday at the welcome area. After going back to my sim Quiplash popped in and we had a chat.....it's all really rather cool I don't mean to be all evangelical about it....but I have kind of rediscovered the enthusiasm I had when I first found SL. It is nice to feel like that again.

I am sooo glad you said that. My technical abilities are virtually nil so being a beta baby is a bit daunting! But, I am downloading the LCO viewer as I type and hopefully will be logging in soon - eeeeeeeee so exciting.

ETA: I got in easy peasy but was stuck immobile, FEET up arse forget shoes lol, and primless - quel horreur! I tried relogging several times but no good. Classy Legend in live Help was very nice and made me feel less a complete noob - the grid was down : ( I'll definitely be back again tomorrow night. I'd love to see this in all its potential

I'm torn on whether to re-register as Beebo or keep my Janice Covington login. Both names are drawn from lesbian pop-culture and synonymous with butch lesbians. I can see the appeal of meeting friends and having them recongize me immediately, but the "clean slate" of a new avatar shape is very tempting. If I go by Beebo I'm going to want to look like Beebo.

Decisions, decisions....

I can only ditto Humps on the awesomesauce customer service. I played pretty much all weekend in Legend City, popping back into SL to tell several of my friends about it. There is a sense of community among those who are trickling in. Everyone is so nice and accomodating. I met Desjah and Humps in world and Desjah has agreed to rent me a parcel to play. On Saturday there were actually about 10 people in the welcome area at once. Fun times!

I did get to see my first Legend City griefer. That was actually delightfully hilarious because said griefer only griefed with nasty words all decked out in its ruth newbie attire. It reminded me of an eight grader standing across the street yelling "you're a doodyhead!"

For me this has renewed my excitement to create. The world is so clean and fresh and not inundated with repeats of the same old crap. I get excited just to find a store and am very patient waiting for the rez. I don't want to miss any of it.

Growing pains? Well yeah. Still, I would highly recommend checking this out.

Awwww....I love you guys

I agree with Humps....being in LCO has really increased my enthusiasm for virtual worlds as well with all the possibilities to learn to learn more, do more, create. I haven't felt that way since I was new to SL either. I have to say....it's refreshing to be in an environment where the first thing people say to you is NOT "wanna have sex?" I have my new sim, great neighbors and new friends, a whole new world to explore....I am happier than a clam.

LaLa and the Legend staff couldn't be more helpful or available to offer assistance when needed. So three cheers to them and keep up the fantastic work!

And that is EXACTLY my POV as well. There is definitely a lack of formal initial support for newcomers to OLG, because it is assumed that they are already well experienced in various SL skills like building and scripting, and that they can hit the ground running. And that's not a bad assumption to make.

But that's only the first and most dedicated crowd. They willl soon enough be followed by a bigger crowd of people like Ivory and me... who are not so much builders as consumers/prosumers, and who rely on some help to get started and to get around. THIS is where I feel that LCO has already made several steps in the right direction. It is avery promising start that I hope can be maintained as it grows over time.

Let me give you an example. As of last night, when you sign onto LCO, there are no less than eight full avatars (complete with sculpty hair and clothes and shoes, etc.) for both male AND female avatars. You get a full wardrobe very easily when you are just starting out.

OLG has made a small step in that direction, with citizens putting up some freebie stores, that you have to ask around to find. But there is still nothing like the extensive starting wardrobe you get at LCO. Of course, the builders and scripters don't really care about that. But the prosumers and consumers who follow will care, and it will affect their perceptions of the grid.

No problem Lektor, I was as much taken aback as you were by what happened in chat. No harm done other than a few ruffled feathers

I'm definitely in the consumer category Quiplash mentioned and having the the avis to pull from made a big difference to me. I was able to rebuild my shape from SL and put on some decent skin and clothes and feel like 'me' right away.

Launch Second Life and LegendCityOnline from Firefox/IE

A long time ago I made a simple local home page that used frames to include the SL Grid Status Report and a sidebar with my Most Used SL Web Links, References to the Wiki, SLURL's and most importantly, after reading the grid status, I can launch SL from Firefox just by entering the href as:

Code:
<a href="secondlife://">Launch Second Life</a>
If you try doing this with any application it won't work unless a protocol key has been created in the registry.
So even though the code below is correct, it will not work unless you have added the registry key and restarted your browser.

Code:
<a href="LegendCityOnline://">Launch Legend City</a>
Now you need to merge a .reg file into the registry if you want this to work.
I have included my LegendCityOnline.reg.txt file as an attachment.
You will need to remove the .txt on the end of the file name.
Open this file in a text editor and change the directory path names to locate the LegendCityOnline.exe file on your computer then double-click it to merge with the registry.

I'll include the .reg file here if you are not able to download it.

Code:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegendCityOnline]
@="URL:LegendCityOnline Protocol"
"URL Protocol"=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegendCityOnline\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegendCityOnline\shell\open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegendCityOnline\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\LegendCityOnline\\LegendCityOnline.exe\" \"%1\""
Hope this helps.
You can use this to launch any application from your browser by editing the .reg file to suit.
Attached Files
File Type: txt LegendCityOnline.reg.txt (335 Bytes, 0 views)

Wow.

I've become a rabid fan of a very few products. Every one of them had two things in common: great customer support, with a company actually there in the trenches with the users, and an active user forum community.

I think that is what I am seeing here. I'm going to check out LCO closely!
