holy crap i need to know how to run 4 sims at once on a single computer

Is that even possible? I want to run a sandbox setup, my own connection, my own computer, with 4 sims running (need the prims and the space).

How do I do that? I have such a good idea.

Yeah. It's possible.

Just cut and paste the 'default.xml' in the Regions/ dir, then:

* delete the UUID section
* change the port from 9000 to 9001,9002,9003, etc.
* adjust name to suit.

Relaunch the sim.

Do I change the X, Y coords as well? Do I rename default.xml to something, do the names of the .xml matter?

Hur.

Multiple .xml files or one with the data pasted inside? Sorry... heh

I tried multiple .xml files and OpenSim crashed in a spectacular fashion.

Multiple XML files

What you may be worth doing is just creating 3 additional blank files called whatever.xml

It should load them and ask for config details automagically.

Kick ass feeling seeing sims on your own PC, huh?

I am running 8 right now. More to come as I feel like it.

Oh, now wait a minute. It's not saving the sims. I closed OpenSim and re-launched it, and now it's asking me for the sim configs again. The xml files are still blank.

How do I make it save?

Give it six llamas.

Otherwise I have no idea. >_> - try shutting down with the 'shutdown' command, but it should be writing them to disk

Nada It's not even generating a default.xml or anything. All the files are blank.

I've never used blank XML files, but I've made multiple regions just copying the default one, deleting the region UUID, changing the port and the X/Y coordinates.

I got in the other day for the first time and couldn't even get out of Wright plaza. I was going to upload some freebies and explore.

I am hoping it was just a fluke.

This idea needs a lot of tinkering before I even THINK about letting it go public.

But the idea would be needing a completely separate grid/experience/client/everything.

Think Saijo City, except fully formed with a proper user experience.

Anyways, one last question: How do I enable megaprims?

They're enabled already. If you want to build them you have to use a different viewer than the SL release.

Either the realXtend viewer, the Nicholaz Megaprim viewer, or the new Hippo viewer will let you do it. There may be one other, but I don't remember its name.

realXtend

opensim:viewer:contents [MJM Labs Wiki]

Don't know the link to Nicholaz' one off hand.
