More 3D worlds: Vivaty Brings The 3D Web to Your Browser Starting With AIM & Facebook

"Vivaty Scenes is launching today in public beta on AIM and in Facebook. These are realistic rooms that act as virtual personal environments—a 3D version of your personal page. You can set the theme, decorate with furniture and other virtual goods, and chat with the avatars of friends who enter your room (they need to install the app as well). The best part is that you can bring in photos from Flickr and Facebook, or videos from YouTube and display them on screens in your room. You can play MP3 songs as well.

...

That could be a game-changer if Vivaty’s platform takes off. It is deep linking into the 3D Web. Since they have regular URLs, each 3D scene can be linked to from the regular Web. Even objects within each room can each have their own URL.

...

While Vivaty is hosting all the rooms to begin with, its technology is architected to become distributed, like the Web itself. Vivaty Scenes are created using standard Javascript and PHP, and can be hosted on standard Web servers. McCurdy doesn’t want to create another walled garden. He wants to bring the Web into the 3D world."

OMGz you mean sound longer than 10 seconds... and, umm, isn't mp3s pirated music or something??

The competition is heating up. Makes Lively and Wonderland look silly and better integration than SL

Is this the beginning of chat programs turning into small 3d rooms?

I use IE 7, but I can't get Vivaty to work. I can't get Lively to work either.

I doubt it's the specs of my machine since I can still manage to get into SL, and IMVU.

They have to make this stuff easier if they want it to be ubiquitous.

I was impressed for the 30 seconds I used it before it died. Epic fail.

Uh huh - Lively worked fine for me and took about 2 seconds to get into. For Vivaty, I had to download the latest version of AIM, then download a plugin for AIM. I was sincere - it was impressive for how long I was able to see it, but then it took down itself, then AIM. I meant literally it was an epic fail - the concept is fine but the whole not working thing is a barrier.

Lively worked fine for you until I had to remove the griefing rickrolling videos from your room for you because you couldn't get in.

Yes this is certainly no competition for Second Life as our typical resident would build their room then instantly bar the door.

Crashed IE at my work. If they want a lot of people on board they should make sure it works through typical corporate firewalls. Oh, and not crash everything

Interesting.

I tried out the aim version. Definitely something I'll keep an eye on, because I have several friends who use aim and/or facebook but roll their eyes at sl. Maybe this could be a gateway drug for them

I haven't crashed yet, but it didn't take much running around before I sank into the ground. Also, there is a distinct lack of poseballs.
