Noob needs help with standalone setup please

So I wanted to set up a standalone opensim on my PC to test out some raw files before uploading to SL. I downloaded one of the installation packages because I'm really really not that technical and surprisingly it worked really well!

I have the console running, I changed the ini file so that it doesnt check accounts and the first time I tried to log onto my sim I saw the console create my avi in the database

Buttttt then it wouldnt log me in and the console gave me this message (sorry about the length)
Quote:
11:26:31 - [LOGIN]: Authorising user (no actual password check)
11:26:31 - [SQL]: sql = avatarID = '4a1deaf5cdc441e8abeedc02142a4a89' AND assetType = 21 AND flags = 1
11:26:31 - [LOGIN]: Home region of user Cattrina Careless is not available; using computed region position 256000 256000
11:26:31 - [LOGIN]: Sending user to default region 1099511628032000 instead
11:26:31 - [LOGIN END]: XMLRPC Login failed, System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at OpenSim.Region.Communications.Local.LocalLoginServ ice.PrepareLoginToRegion(RegionInfo regionInfo, UserProfileData user, LoginResponse response) at OpenSim.Region.Communications.Local.LocalLoginServ ice.CustomiseResponse(LoginResponse response, UserProfileData theUser, String startLocationRequest) at OpenSim.Framework.Communications.LoginService.XmlR pcLoginMethod(XmlRpcRequest request)
11:26:31 - [LOGIN END]: XMLRPC Login failed. Sending back blank XMLRPC response
so I did some digging here and on some blogs. What I found is that my region default.xml only has the following code in it.

Quote:
<Root>
<Config />
</Root>
and somehow I think that probably not right.

Someone let me know if I'm on the right track?

Thanks!!!!

Glad I could help. I'm a genius!

(The exit command for the console should be shutdown.)

Thanks Joshua I couldnt have done it without your help!

So the shutdown command doesnt work. How badly would I be messing things up if I just close the dos window?

Oh and did I meant how cool this is!!! raw files load so much faster this way and it makes it so much easier

Hm shutdown should be the command. It works for mine, but Adam says that the console got some major revisions in the last few days, so something could be busted. I'm not that up to date. You might want to file an issue on their mantas about it (that's like their JIRA and bug tracking site.)

My View - Mantis

But you should be okay with just closing the window, it shouldn't cause any problems.

quit - works fine for me

*note* in my fumblings I've found that if you don't shut down properly then you will have to either
a. kickuser [firstname] [lastname] OR
b. quit - and restart the sim on the next run

hope that helps

Just fyi - I tried this on r8403 and both "quit" and "shutdown" appear to be working.
