Parallel Selves Message Bridge - IMs between grids

This was just posted on Ostatic about the newly released Message Bridge for OpenSim, which allows IMs to be sent between grids:

New "Message Bridge" Enables IMs Between Open Source Virtual Worlds

There is also more about it here from the developer:

The Parallel Selves Message Bridge « justincc’s opensim blog

I think this is a pretty exciting development.

Thanks Cristiano. It's something of a kludge (it's not a technical approach that can really be scaled to general inter-grid connectivity) but even in it's current state it might prove useful. In particular, it might be handy for content creators who want to work in an OpenSim standalone system but still want to talk with people on a grid (whether Linden Lab's or an OpenSim one) without breaking immersion.

Well, there is SLim, I don't know if you can integrate into into other programs yet, or if anyone really uses it. But it is out there.

Be very careful if you use such apps on your own grid, doing something similar got me a strong warning from LL legal.

I don't see how LL legal has any grounds? You may relay messages out of SL. You may relay messages into SL (since that's what your client does in the first place).

What, exactly, were their reasons for warning?

TOS violation, clause 4.3
I had TP working between SL and my own grid using a client that logged into both grids at the same time and still received IMs etc from SL.

I thought it was because you teleported to your own grid while having access to SL inventory, or with SL assets.

I don't quite remember, it was a while ago, and you know Prokofy. But I didn't think it had anything to do with you sending IMs across services.

They were vague, but basically said that it was because I was interacting with their servers without getting express consent.

Okay so, assuming the following is correct,

1. You accessed SL inventory to some degree whilst not in SL.
2. You sent IMs to SL whilst not in SL.

Which one do you think, logically, they have a problem with.

1 - actually as far as they knew I was in SL, just my avatar was standing still and not moving

But yeah, they probably didn't like to see me rez myself on another grid with my inventory intact, so i'm going to concede to you
