The sudden passing of Mabb has made me think about how often we encounter people here whose posts we enjoy, sometimes for years on end, and never get to know them beyond their words here or maybe brief contact in world. The chance can disappear all too soon, and it is a shame to regret not getting the chance to know someone.

You may be too shy to say it here, but give some thought to who you would really love to get to know, and how you can make that happen. From grief can often come something positive to help heal.

For me, it is of course the ever elusive Beebo, who I have tried in vain to get to know but she rarely uses those newfangled IM things. Cindy Claveau is one too. We have spoken briefly here and there, but I have been a fan of hers forever. There are many others here whose posts I see all the time that I don't really know, even after years of their belonging to SLU. I'd like to change that.

Also, I hear from many people that they never approach me because they think I am too busy or whatever. Trust me, I'm not. I'm just shy. I know that is ridiculous for someone running a public site who has been through some of the shit I have, but if anything it has made me more shy. So don't feel like you can't approach me. I'd love to make some new friends. Sometimes you have to yell at me a few times to get me to respond, but that is because I'm easily distracted. Ask Eboni - our IMs would go faster by carrier pigeon.

Thanks, Brenda! It was wonderful talking to you tonight. I definitely hope we can talk more as well. I appreciate the sentiments. This community is actually the very reason I have kept the site going. It is one of a kind.

I'm totally guilty of wanting to know Cris better and thinking he's too busy.

I've been blessed to know many posters here very well over the years, in SL and on this forum and SC. They are my friends, as much as any real life ones. Many I added to my facebook before I recently disabled it due to RL issues with my ex.

Without thinking on it too hard, I'd love to get to know Bronx better she's all sorts of awesome. Eku, lol, I never get on skype, and I should. Beebs I love and adore and if I knew her better than I do now I'd have to move over there. AIMEE! That Weebler person too. Another lady I always feel is too busy and I don't like to bother.
Alexa is wonderful, Chip is cool and I don't know him as well as I'd like. I could go on and on, but I have to make dinner for the kids.

Just as a thought, has anyone told Munch and Rev about Mabbsy? They need to know. Joshua too.

I am a social wimp when I'm away from a keyboard, but I would love more SLU get-togethers (at Euro-friendy-ish hours). Even if I end up sitting and being tongue-tied (as in fingers and keyboard-tied).

I did enjoy the last ones (even just watching Walker roll up Ruthed, or sneakily take a closer look at a few avatars... such as Cindy and Sredni. And Cristiano had some sort of suit with glowy bits).

*sigh* This makes me sound totally socially inept, and I probably am a lot of the time. Work-related stuff is OK. And everything is better with a glass of wine.

But yep, I'd like to actually meet a few (lots, even) SLU people inworld, even though I'm not around much except to meet a couple of very long-standing friends. I find myself missing my sim more than I even expected because I *did* sometimes get off my work platform and go talk to visitors.

(And this sounds like I'm whining but I'm not - I'm fairly contented with my own company most of the time. Just... not *all* the time).

As for who particularly I'd like to meet, I just can't make a list because I'd miss somebody and then feel guilty and add a million edits. But lots of you.

Yes exactly that... I get this impression that everybody is frantically busy on SL... creating and shopping and doing stuff with partners. I'm probably partly wrong but I also hate to intrude.

(And you know, people who visited my old place always started by saying "I know you're really busy"... but I usually never minded).

I think this is one of the reasons that, for me, SL is not as much fun... I loved doing some smaller builds right on the main square because that did mean some people talked (and I did too).

Maybe I should go take some basic mesh classes or something, if that exists? Or try to get involved in some voluntary projects (preferably building or decorating somewhere for people who can't).

See, I'm better DOING things than just making small talk, most of the time.

I can be very much a hermit, eku's unhinged was THEE big social event for me...I cant tell you how awkward I felt arriving and not knowing what to say other than *hullo*. However, I enjoyed it immensley, it was fun to see the pixels behind the posts, and the whole event was glowy,sparkly and warm.

I tend to think SLU is full of really close friends..that I dont know...or that I dont get the in jokes ! There are really too many people to list that Id like to get to know better, the more events that come along Im going to attend and try sooper hard to actually say something when I get all *starstruck* lol

I basically stay in my shell while in world but when I went to Unhinged to help Beth with her set, I really enjoyed getting to meet a few from here (and they didn't make me feel socially inept at all--even though at times, I speak/type before I think).

I would love to meet so many people here and possibly the best way to do that is get to the SLU clubhouse but I have not a clue where it is or when people are generally around.

I hesitate to say who I would most like to meet because I'm afraid of leaving people out but Cindy and Brenda both are at the top of my list. Cris is on there (because you are more elusive then I am!), Shiloh...Pepper (! oddly enough, because we are plurk buddies but I say good morning, she says good night..so chances of that happening are slim LOLOL) and many others but that's the short list off the top of my head. Oh and Eboni...she makes me laugh often on Plurk even if she won't take my kid (but I think we are sending them all to pancake anyway...who is another one I would love to meet AND take pictures with!)--see the list could really go on and on and on.

So where is the club house and how does one get there?

I've mooched along to the clubhouse a few times but always seem to miss everyone, but that's a timezone thing, dammit I have met a few SLUers inworld now and am trying to be a bit braver when I spot someone I recognise and say hi, though I still get starstruck too and end up giggling and shuffling my feet , which is plain daft coz you are all so gosh darned fab. Looking forward to meeting more of you when I can
