Does your cell phone crash?

I have a Motorola Chocolate LG cell phone. It is in a permanent state of buggy-crashiness, but yet i can still dial 90% of the time, without using my contact list.

My husband has one of those Treo phones and it crashes all the time as well. He took it to the Verizon store and they did some weird reset on it, but it still crashes.

Does your cell phone crash?

Would it be best just to have a phone that did no internet at all so maybe it would be less complex and prone to crashing?

My phone history...

Nokia 3650 Symbian Smartphone - Never crashed

Motorola RAZR V3 (Black) - Crashed CONSTANTLY. Really. Any little thing would set it off.

Samsung t509 - Never ever crashed, but didn't do much other than being a phone.

Danger Sidekick III - Never crashed, probably my favorite phone to date, except the build quality. It literally fell apart.

BlackBerry Pearl (Current Phone) - Doesn't crash, well constructed, but sometimes the OS can be SLOOOOOOOW

YES!

I have a Motorolla Razr, I am on my third one. I keep having issues with them. My current one likes to freeze on the wallpaper screen and lock up on me. I have to pop the battety out and reboot it.

My friend has a Razr II and so far bug free. I may shell out the money and switch to that once I have some extra money to blow.

I think so, I have an old Samsung POS, as it's been dubbed by my friends who have bought into all of the new fancy ones. No camera, mp3 player or any of that, just a simple phone that makes phone calls. All I need and want. I honestly don't care for the rest of the stuff most phones have these days. I mean, I don't need the internet and my whole music collection with me constantly.

My Pearl has crashed maybe 3 times since I have owned it. Otherwise very stable, and as you say ... slow.

The Nokia N70 is known for being a bit slow... but, it's a pretty good smartphone.

I've had two Motos. My last was a V635. Crash, crash, crash, all the ing time.

I had a Nokia N73 briefly. It never crashed but the screen started to fill up with dust (from the inside) within weeks and that pissed me off.

My present phone is a Nokia N95, and it never crashes.

Which is saying something because I'm always installing new software and playing lots of processor intensive games on it (like Quake and the few N-Gage titles available), and I haven't turned it off in a month.

(Come to think of it, if you don't power your Moto off and on very much, start doing that now. If there are memory leaks, long periods of uptime will result in all available memory trickling away, until *boom*. Goodbye and hello again Moto.)

I am a cheapist, but I love my two prepaid phones.

The first one is the one I actually use to make phone calls. No smarts and no intarwebz. I did a review of it on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FJ1XWA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top. It is built like a tank and has never failed me.

The second one is my Virgin Mobile Marbl. I leave it in the car at night. It has a super slow WAP internet connection that is adequate for Yahoo! mail and messaging and funny when you try to view Flickr with it. I call it my postage stamp. If I ever do decide to actually use it for a phone, the variable volume control is sweet.

I love them both, although I had to do a bit of training to figure out what m.yahoo.com actually is good for, and what I should skip.

Neither one cost more than 20 bux up front.

I have an HTC Mogul running Windows Mobile 5.

I'm quite pleased with this phone. I was basically in the market to get the most computer-like handset Sprint had available. I use it for internet and applications WAY more than I do actual calling, so I have unlimited data transfer, but use less than 200 minutes per month.

Anyway... it hasn't crashed once since I got it a couple of months ago. Frozen a few times, but I'm completely to blame... 2-3 tabs going in Opera and multiple apps running at once will do that.

I have a sneaking suspicion it might not be as sturdy as a more basic handset, but I have a pretty serviceable Samsung A900 to fall back on if this one bitches out on me. That phone crashed ALL THE TIME on the net, but worked very well for calls, messaging, texting, etc.

Didn't I recommend looking at HTC when you were thinking of buying a QWERTY phone a few months ago? The slide out keyboard is excellent because it allows for bigger keys than Blackberry-like devices, while allowing for a really small handset because it slides shut.

I was thinking of the S710 or S730, but they're all pretty nice, and that looks like a more advanced version of both.

Anyway, don't worry too much if it's crashing or freezing now and then. I know from reports of previous HTC models that they tend to get more stable when new firmwares are rolled out. It's possible HTC release new models a bit too soon really.

I almost bought a HTC S730 until I realised my partner was getting me an N95.

Same here regarding usage. I'd go so far as saying my N95 has replaced both my laptop computer and cameras (video and still) in many situations.

I am a huge Samsung fan - I am still using my A920 after 2 years, and before that I had an A500 for several years as well. I am surprised the A900 crashes so much - I have not had any crashing problems at all with the 920 (which has the exact same software in it), and I use it all the time with the wireless web. Perhaps it is just a hit or miss thing with various models. I keep wanting to upgrade my phone, but I am a flip phone fan and for what I use my cell phone for, my 920 is still perfect.

My Dad is still using a Samsung T100 he bought six years ago. SIX YEARS! He's dropped it countless times, and once accidentally drove over it after he left it on the garage floor. It's a bit scratched, but works just as it did on day one.

The T100 was much sought after when it came out because it was the first GSM phone with a TFT screen. It was much sexier than other phones of the time too.

They don't look so unique any more though. Lots of companies copied the look.

I think Samsung are a good, reliable electronics manufacturer in general. Last year, we bought a couple of their digital W/S TVs for the bedroom and kitchen, and even after a lot of use, I can't think of anything bad to say about them. The specs were better than anything else on offer while being very competitively priced.

Thwarting a Potential Drama Attack

Mine's the most base model you could get with a cell phone (which means it still has a color screen nowadays) and it crashed on me while I was at work the other day. I was really surprised. It locked up, and I was standing there just staring at it when my geek buddy comes up:

"Whatcha doin', Ten?"
"Shhh... I'm waiting for the BSOD."

I'm having cell phone envy now, thanks guys. I used to have a really fricking awesome phone when I was still with Sprint, but I cancelled that and the sons of bitches are trying to get me to pay for a month that I didn't even use my phone - and that month was AFTER I told them I was cancelling. They have me logged as buying a screen saver, a ringtone, and a bunch of other shit - and I just don't do that. Ever. My phone was turned off that entire month and sitting in a drawer.

They have their little creditors calling me and I just tell them "Hey, guess what? I'm not fucking paying you."

However, they continue to harass me, so I'm going to send in $3.33 checks from here on out. They can't complain any more - I'm attempting to pay, right? I wanted to send cash, but my mother advised me against that because they can claim it was never received.

Maybe I should change that to $6.66 checks. Anyone have a better, funnier amount that I should send in via check? I think I should do something above a dollar at least.

Sigh,

This thread already has me browsing around t-mobile.com for their latest phone offerings, and I'm not even eligible for an upgrade for 16 months
