House of Missing Woman Susan Powell's Husband Explodes, Killing Three

This just happened a couple of hours ago less than a mile from my home. We have been following this case since it began and what a terrible ending.

The so called father had a supervised visit and waited for his children to arrive. He locked the door on the case worker and the house exploded killing both children. Our neighborhood is in shock. Why didn't this guy just end his life and leave his children out of it.

I saw this article, and wondered the exact same thing. Why kill those little boys, too. If he wanted to die, fine on him, but to take those children with him...that just breaks my heart.

I can tell you why he killed those boys with him. He didn't give a damn. It was to punish everyone else. All those horrible people who questioned him and his in-laws for fighting him for custody and...and...and....

Showed his true colors right there. Unfortunately he took those poor kids with him.

Another guy who'd rather kill his family than let them go, seems a tragically common thing.

Oddly, I just said this very same thing to Etain. I was watching the local (Seattle) TV when they interrupted the programming to announce this.

So incredibly sad

His dad was arrested for child porn, and they found something on this guy's computer that was making them require psychosexual analysis?

Oh, that's *comforting*.

And yet he still was allowed to see the kids.

I keep thinking of that poor caseworker who drove the kids there, witnessed their death and narrowly escaped dying as well.

Said social worker will probably be the sacrificial lamb to the ineptitude of the judge and her bosses.

I know that is what one of my neighbors said. " She must feel horrible being the one who delivered the children to their death."

I do not know why CPS did not require the visit with a suspected murderer to take place at a government facility.

I remember when the mom first went missing 2years agao (not far from where I sit now). Everyone suspected the husband, but no evidence was ever found.

Well, because being a suspect doesn't equal being guilty. As I understand it, the children were taken from his custody only after his father was arrested for having kiddie porn. I'm not saying I think he was innocent, this latest horror certainly makes it look like he wasn't. I'm just answering your question about what CPS was thinking in allowing him home visits.

And to be fair, there's only supposition for whether this implies guilt or not. He may simply have snapped under the pressure.

There's the added factor that he himself may have been abused as a child, so his father's arrest may have sent him over the deep edge if it re-surfaced memories he's been trying to forget.

It doesn't appear we'll ever know for sure.

I'm going to hazard a guess that it's because the courts didn't order it. I think supervised visitation only happens at a government facility (or court sanctioned facility) if the court orders it - otherwise it's wherever the non-custodial parent wants it to be. Also, that is VA - Washington is a different state.

Support your local domestic violence program. Somebody's life may depend on it.

It's not CPS that calls the shots as to where visits take place. The judge on the case is the one who makes the decisions about when, where, how often, and who is supervised.

So, seriously - the judge fucked up hard in this case.

I heard second-hand (thus no source to quote) that the oldest of the kids had reached the point of talking about his mother's disappearance, and had said something to the effect that "Mommy was in the trunk" during the infamous car ride to a midnight camping trip.

Anyone else seen where this information comes from?

We won't stop seeing this sort of horror happen until children are treated like human being with rights and needs of their own, rather than a piece of property belonging to their parents.

I would also point out that OJ Simpson retained custody of his and Nicole Brown's children until they were adults. I read somewhere that poor Sidney believes he murdered her mother and is a real headcase now.

I've seen it pop up a few times on the news feeds, but here's one:

Just saw this:

U.S. News - Attorney: Missing mom was 'in the trunk' boys said before their deaths

The oldest boy had shared that information with his grandparents, according to their attorney. Also, Josh Powell's sister and brother-in-law were aware of the same information, as both boys were starting to talk more. Sounds like Josh Powell killed himself and those boys because he knew the truth would eventually come out, and he would end up charged with her murder. Asshole!

About two hours after the explosion we drove near where this happened and were passed by a Utah police car. So maybe this monster knew he was about to be arrested since his children were talking about what happened to their mother.

Anyone who can murder the mother of his children, and then do the same to those children is more monster than anything ever invented by our imaginations.
