So THAT'S why we can't understand each other!

I just found this article about a set of letter blocks used to teach English to Chinese children. Depending on how widely-used these blocks are, I'd say English-speaking companies who do business in China are in for a few more decades of frustrating conference calls:

Quote:
An armet is a two-piece helmet from 15th century with a moveable facemask. A navvy is apparently a steam-shovel. Coler sounds like a bastardization of koala, but maybe it is Australian English. Gee, I don’t know.

EDIT: It reminds me of that Monty Python sketch about the maliciously-composed English/Turkish dictionary.

And yet, China has a much higher fluency of English than Japan does.
Though, I must admit, I wouldn't be surprised if these letter blocks are fake (I've never seen anything that bad in the shops, and I've seen some pretty bad stuff)

Your tagline uses a kanji for a type of fish that would not normally be expressed using kanji - only restaurant owners would recognise that, I reckon.

Sigh, "unagi" doesn't express in kanji? Those inscrutable Japanese with their 3 versions of one language.

Anyhow, I translated it to be ISO 8859-1 compliant.

Those look like joke blocks to me.

PS: I went to a Chinese school in Malaysia - that's not what was used
