I was under the impression from what I've read that these flaws were old and had been fixed.

If not can someone clarify in laymans terms exactly what the issue is?

several severe attack vectors. that article is prefaced with 'now that these holes are patched' though, and it also a year old.
use a virgin password and the worst that can happen is the sort of thing thats happened on twitter and myspace for years.

....jesus Christ, it's amazing how much Google+ is a clone of Diaspora. More features, but so many things and designs are just grabbed from there. It's nuts.

I'm on but haven't really done much yet, I need to make new profile/avatar pics but I'm lazy/busy atm.

I'm interested in seeing what happens to it, but I'm not gonna be terribly surprised if my acct gets hacked, either.

Yes I know, and I did install it. What happened was, I ctrl-c copied a link in Diaspora and accidentally included an image. Then when I pasted the link into SLU it included the css stuff for the image. Now it's putting the css in my posts and if I try to delete it, it just puts it right back in.

Anyway I'm posting this from a different computer so it shouldn't be there in this post.

Yes and no, I wrote a blog entry on it, and there is an official wiki.

Basically, Diaspora is to Facebook, what OpenSim is to Second Life. Its a free open source social network, where anyone can host a server or "pod" and all the "pods" communicate with one another so all the people on all the pods can "acquaintance" each other and follow each others posts.

Like OpenSim, there are a lot of servers up, but it is sparsely populated. #tags that would bring up hundreds of entries on tumblr or twitter, bring up barely anything on Diaspora.

It is "alphaware" right now, but the software seems pretty stable, it is just missing a lot of features that are common with other social networks.
