This is a shot from one further west showing the pattern to watch out for, I don't think 51407 is registering it yet (disclaimer: I'm no oceanographer but the readings from the already hit areas show a pattern more like the one below, that disrupts the curve).

Terrible but not unexpected news from Japan, the police are saying they have found 200-300 bodies on the NE coast
This is so bad, earthquake-proof buildings are working and that's great but how do you defend against a tsunami?

Edit note: I guess the one you posted psyke has just updated, i see the pattern now.

From the tsunami footage alone I'd say thousands have lost their lives in Sendai. I still can't quite take in what I'm seeing there. Not just buildings being swept up and carried along, but buildings on fire. I spotted at least two infernos in that wave. It's just horrible to see cars speeding along the highway trying to escape, only to be engulfed. I even noticed one vehicle speeding towards the wave, the driver not realising the wave was just a couple of blocks away racing towards them.

There's some scary footage I just caught on Fox of the Miyagi provence it looks like an absolutely massive fire, looked like a forest fire at first - but it's people's houses. It looked like it went on for miles...

My step-niece and her new husband are stationed on Oahu. I'm pretty sure they will be fine, unless there is a huge wave.

^^ Words fail me.

Thank goodness the SLU friends made it through unharmed. Praying for the safety of so many more.
