Angry WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER

I fucking hate 1and1.

I called Thursday to have a backup restored. By Saturday it still wasn't done and I called to ask what was going on. I was told 24 - 48 hours max and it would be finished.

Called again Monday, pissed, since it still wasn't done, and I was told it would be finished within 6.

Fifteen hours had passed between when I called last night and when I called this morning and, look! Still no restore.

Every time I've called I've been specific about what date I wanted the backup restored. Last night the guy even told me that they had backups for specific dates at specific times.

So I called back and after being run around for 25 minutes the customer service rep came back and told me, oops, they don't actually have any backups for me at all before the 24th. Which does me no fucking good since that's well after I lost data in the first place.

So we argued for 15 minutes where she refused, refused, to transfer me to a supervisor. Flat out WOULD NOT DO IT. I asked why. "He's too busy right now." Get him the fuck unbusy.

No one would explain to me why they had backups last night but not now. No one would transfer me to a supervisor. She then tried to play hold-chicken with me and left me waiting for twenty minutes when I asked to be transferred to billing to have my account shut down.

But that's that. It's canceled and I'm livid.

That sounds like a nightmare. Did you get the name of the person you spoke to so you can report the experience to the company management? There's no excuse for treating customers like that. How much data did you lose?

Since you cancelled your account, take a look at The Planet. I've been with them for five years and always been impressed with their support.

I got the name and employee ID and a letter has already been mailed.

I was actually getting everything set up on Dreamhost, but 1and1 still hasn't transfered my domain EITHER, so all around I'm just pissed. This is the second time I've had a support issue and they jerked me around.

OMG Why didn't she do what we all used to do in the call centre? Get the person next to you to pretend they're the supervisor.

Seriously though bad customer service is the norm now, companies seem to prefer to employ one tech adviser with a hundred normal advisers who are there to put you off.

I signed up for Bearshare, which I went to cancel after one month, whats the point of being able to download music if you can't burn it to a disc.

Well, you can't just remove your billing info, nor is there a way to cancel online, you have to send a message to their support center, which I did. I assumed I woud get billed again, and here comes the charge. I tried all day yesterday to get through on the phone, everytime I got to number 2 in the queu (sp), they would disconect me, and its not an 800 number.

I sent them another email, and asked them what I should do, contact the BBB, or my state attorney general, or both, unless they were willing to refund my money

Sorry to hear that, Joshua. I've had a nightmare dealing with 1and1 as well. I'd switch my DNS, always to just have it revert days later, pointing to NOTHING. Argh!

I'm in the process of moving to HostICan after an experience of epic incompetence at GoDaddy. I started to move to Dreamhost, but had questions. I filled out the CGI form for their sales dept, but the form returns an error message on submit and they tell you to contact support. The email for support gets kicked back saying they no longer accept emails from non-customers at that address and tells you to submit on the CGI form. I took this as a sign from teh intarweb gods and moved on to HostIcan.

I had to deal with GoDaddy at my last job and I would rather get pregnant, carry it for six months, have an abortion and then go on Larry King than host with GoDaddy again.

Dreamhost I've also dealt with work-wise and I never had any issues with them. And in fact they've been really helpful and quick (far quicker than 1and1) every time I've emailed them and walked me through how to initiate the domain transfer from 1and1's end since I've never done one before.
