I just watched "Heethledger" run towards the Orgrimmar auction house and die.

A minute or so later "Jakegylenhal" came, started crying, and died as well.

Fraid Josh, we're going to have to stage an intervention and get you doing something properly self destructive, like drinking.

None of this sitting-inside-for-7-hours-playing-WoW business, especially not on the weekend.

I just told my mother "It's hard to know what anyone's real intentions are here" over the phone.

She replied "Oh honey...it hurts me that you say that..I feel just like Hillary Clinton."

The people are all totally different levels of English, so is going to be weird. It's a 2 hour class but I've been told what to teach, so I'm not stuck for ideas - just wondering if I can make it last 2 hours.
For instance, we have to role-play where I am a customer of the company asking about the products. So I've got to ask about piezoelectric thingamajiggies but if the person can't understand English, how can this last a long time? Also, my Japanese is so-so, but piezoelectric?? I didn't know that word in English!

I believe D.C. is quite cheap - cheap that is if you don't value your soul

Thank you.
I am not sure how it went.
It's a part time job only, so it's just 2 hours each time.

I basically had to get the people to introduce themselves, so to make them more confident I gave them an example but they had trouble coming forwards and doing the same.

The first guy was probably the worst at speaking English but I think he tried the hardest. He wanted to talk about his hometown and the festivals they have.
When I asked him "what questions do you have?", he said "I would like to know what foreigners want to hear about myself. For instance, is it better that I come from a town with good people, or is the nature better?"
I said, why not say both, as in "I come from a small town, where people are friendly and the scenery is beautiful"

The next person was much better at English, but he introduced himself by name, position in company and then said "that's all". I asked him about questions and he said he had none.

Other people did presentations but when I asked for questions, none of them grasped the point like the first guy did - they asked unrelated questions to the situation like "do you have a girlfriend?" - what the hell has that got to do with a business visit?

Secondly - they had to give presentations about their products.
Forgetting the English, I have to teach these people how to give presentations! They were useless.
Also, they all used the whiteboard, but if they are going to England and Europe (which is where their business is), they have to learn to use computers. In England, blackboards are way back in the past - all classrooms in schools use interactive whiteboards with computer displays. If schools are doing this, then a professional company is not going to be impressed by a guy with a whiteboard and a marker pen!

I have to say, though, all in all, I did not do enough to earn the money they are giving me, though I did try. I just think that I need a Japanese person on my side to tell them what they need to do - they are reluctant to change their methods, from what I can see.

The first day is usually the hardest. You don't know what to expect from them and they don't know what to expect from you. Hopefully things will be a little easier next time. Does the company have someone japanese that they could put in the next few classes with you? Not long term, just long enough to make sure your students understand your expectations.
