That's what I was thinking. We use a golf cart at the campground we stay at in the summer. If it was between buying a golf cart and one of these for basically the same price, I'd buy this.

AFAIK airbags aren't required by law.

Anyway, I don't see a problem with cars like this. It's better than one of those lame scooters, though not as good as a motorbike.

Over here we have these tiny mongrel cars driven by handicapped people, or by old people who are too scared to get into a real car, or by general idiots too incompetent to get a driver's license.

Because of some hole in our road legislation, you're allowed to drive any vehicle smaller than a certain size, and that goes maximum 20 mph without a driver's license. I hate those fucking things since I always get stuck behind one just when there is non-stop traffic from the other side of the road so I can't fucking pass it. Always makes me want to ram it and push it off the road.

At least this Indian thingey gets 43 mph.

I rephrased it a bit. Does this work better for you?

Marginally.

I still find the fact that you appear to separate those of us with handicapping conditions into a category rather disturbing. We're just people.

Now lay down on the floor so I can run over you repeatedly with my wheelchair.

I was just describing the people who drive these things. Not separating handicapped people so I could send them off to a concentration camp or anything. My problem lies with the drivers of those things, not with handicapped people in general.

If those 'cars' were driven for a big part by people with black hair or people who listen to gangster rap, I would state that also. And people with black hair are also just as human as the rest of us. (though people who listen to gangster rap I have no words for )

These are the 'cars' I'm talking about btw:

I can't walk by one without feeling the urge to slash its tires.

Are they even slashable? They look like those hard rubber tricycle tires.

I haven't actually tried yet.

I guess it's part of the design. I can imagine the marketing:

"Solid tires to protect against road raged people who just lost 45 minutes of their life driving behind you at 20 mph on a 70 mph allowed road"

Oh my goodness. I'm standing here beside myself.

I'm sure some idiot in Washington will be touting those ....things...here fairly soon as well.

The thought of driving on the New Jersey Turnpike in the snow in a Prius frightens me as it is.....in one of those?
Will never pass US safety regulations.

Probably not emissions regulations either.

Actually no way it could they would have to be foot to the floor through most of the emissions tests to keep up with the required speed.

A $2000 car is amazing though.

why would you buy this.. even if it is supposedly cheap...

look around! we just sold the 2ltr BMW (1992) sitting in the garden for 550 euro because it was taking up space and neither of us wanted to drive it.. (my insurance be like a squillion quid anyways)

much better offers around than this fisher price death trap..

TATA Nano – The One Lakh Car - Abhishek Kumar

Quote:
Engine: Rear-wheel drive, 2-cylinder, 623 cc, multi-point fuel-injection petrol engine. Engine is rear mounted. Tata said it was the first time a 2-cylinder gasoline engine was being used in a car with single balancer shaft.

Safety: Tata said the Nano has an all sheet-metal body, with safety features such as crumple zones, intrusion-resistant doors, seat-belts, strong seats and anchorages, and the rear tailgate glass bonded to the body. Tyres are tubeless.

Environment: Tata said tailpipe emission performance exceeded current regulatory requirements, and the Nano had a lower overall pollution level than two-wheelers made in India. It said high fuel efficiency (20 km/litre) ensured low carbon dioxide emissions.
And from what I've been reading, it has been reported as having a top speed of somewhere between 70mph and 80mph, not 45mph.

Not claiming it's a great car, but seeing as it will get around 48-55 mpg, it can be assured that once (or IF, hopefully it will happen) it comes to the United States, you'll be seeing a lot of them on the road.

I had a 1990 Geo Metro for about 2 years--a friend sold it to me for $300, when he bought it at the dealer it was somewhere between $6,000 and 7,000. No, it didn't have much power, and I was worried for my life if it got in an accident, but it actually handled quite well around corners (and I could go over speed bumps at insane speeds and not worry about messing it up) and let me tell you, I sure saved money on gas. In my opinion, it's about time something actually came out that gets decent gas mileage without being a WAY overpriced hybrid--I mean, what good does good gas mileage make if the vehicle costs over $20,000?
