Tell the truth, you snore and are afraid your co-workers will hear you. Hey, I get it, but you really must sleep!!!! Bring a huge book with you, preferably a very old classic that everyone says you simply 'must read'. Who cares what you look (or sound ) like while you're zonked - they're your co-workers, not your highschool crush.

Oh my... having to be responsible tonight! 2 kids and a little 9 week old baby! I wasn't expecting them to leave the baby at home too!

Watching tv, baby monitor close, phone handy... hehe. I hope the baby doesn't wake up as my brother and his partner really need a night out. I've been told to call if he does wake up. Much as I'd like to take some of the pressure off them, I can't feed him... just not equipped that way.

I also have some fairy dust to sprinkle around if the 5 yr old wakes up with night terrors. Worth a try, i've been told, to help get her back to sleep again. Sometimes she's inconsolable and even a tight hug and cuddle isn't enough to help her out of her terror.

I really don't know how you parents cope! I love them to bits, but longer than a week with them and i'm a grumpy shit bag who snaps at the smallest thing! I just hope in years to come the great relationship I have with them continues and I can be on the end of the phone for them if they feel they want another opinion or help.

You simply must read this!

You know it's hot when you take a cool shower and need another one before you're dried off. In an air conditioned (although window units) house.

That's when you pull up a chair to the air conditioner and tell people to go to hell when they ask you to stop hogging it!

Hell...that's when you sit naked in front of an open fridge and tell people to go to hell when they ask you to pass the milk!

I always feel like I need to say this on the various forums I frequent -- I don't come here expecting sympathy and hugs when I talk about my recent experience with breast cancer.

I hope people don't find it tedious how often it seems to come up in my posts... admittedly, it comes up a lot -- I guess because it's such a huge event in my life, a life changing event. The physical and emotional scars are going to be with me the rest of my life.

It's not an uplifting event like getting married or having children, but when I can I try to talk about as an uplifting experience. I survived; I learned a lot about myself, and who my real friends are, and who in my family I can really trust. And how really important it is to stop and enjoy the small things, like talking to the little bunny that hops through our yard every day (not that I ignored him before).

But there are also the negatives of the experience (like how shitty and miserable our health care system really is), and I can't help but want to warn people about what the journey is actually like. Because nothing prepares you, except maybe words from an "old pro" (which I wished I'd had).

So I appreciate you tolerating my repetitive recollections and rants -- I'm still suffering from what they call "chemo brain," and there a literally days when I couldn't tell you what day it is or what I just ate.

Crap! I hate to rain on a Klondike bar parade.

Anywho.

So I enter the lottery (I know that's a mistake to begin with.)

You get the red ball right, you win $4. You get the red ball and two white balls right, you win $7. Why in the hell does red ball AND one white ball still just win $4?

It's too darn hot to sleep. Although I don't feel right to complain considering the much bigger heat wave down south...

I came here, started reading forums... found myself prompted to make an "Is the flying spaghetti monster a sentient being who will get you to heaven when you die?" thread and then defend it tooth and nail but then... this horrible thing happened: I decided it was better to just come check this thread instead and then log off. What the hell is happening to me?!!?! I hope I'm not becoming a grown-up!

Sorry, but both Science and the Bible has stated that you can't be a grown up and have a SLU account.

They've got the fire at about 95% containment and, with the exception of two small areas, all of the evacuation and pre-evacuation notices have been lifted.

Astolat, you survived an arduous fight which no one should have to go through, much less worry about losing. My pastor's wife went through the same thing, and I find her spirit as amazing as I have found your's. Speaking for myself, I like that you share things that you've learned. Who knows which one of us will someday need to fight that same, or an all too similar, battle and will need those words.

Someone on the internet is wrong.
And I just spent 5 minutes proving it, when I should be sleeping.

I agree... I think this sort of sharing has the potential to help many people. I've been debating whether I should mention something, since it involves people who have nothing to do with SL or SLU, and I don't want to share too many details of my life in an open forum, but someone close to me is currently fighting cancer, and I actually just got back from visiting her and her family.

I would never ask you to post such personal details, Astolat, but I'm glad you did. Being able to read such things as well as having long talks with a friend of mine who's a cancer survivor has really helped me to understand what to expect.

Thank you.
