Oh sweet, one of the links in the other thread mentioned Concept Cookie — I didn't know that site, but I subscribe to Blender Cookie and evidently my membership works on both. \o/

Missing Cat: Day Four

Our "outside" rescue cat Lola went missing after breakfast four days ago. She rarely wanders far from the sideporch with her shelter, and never ever misses meals, so we're not feeling too good about this.

We're also really really hoping that her disappearance is not related to finding our car egged and gas siphoned from the tank this weekend.

I was having kind of a down day, lots of labor board/legal shit going on.

A very old friend IMed me, he's always been crazy. He lives in suburban Orange County, CA.

"So guess what I got this weekend?" he asked
"I don't have any idea"
"I got a goat"
"What, really?"
"Yes, and I named him after you, he's Little <my full legal name>"
"Oh fuck off you did not"
"Yeah, I did, I walk him on a leash, my neighbors hate me"

I love them both.

I'd cheat, and just take a screenshot of someone in an appropriate pose in SL or a freebie pose program and sketch over that. It's the quality of the line and subtleness of the expression that sells, not the lengths and angles. Those are relatively easier to master to an acceptable level than getting poses right.

Who the hell knew that death records aren't public in N.J.? Obviously if I have someone's full name, DOB, and SSN - I'm not looking to steal his identity! I have enough information to do that already. I just want to find his fucking burial information!

I did. No obituary was published which doesn't surprise me. I sent an email to the Star Ledger asking if there was a death notice, but they haven't answered me yet.

The person popped up on the Social Security Death Index this week, but it doesn't say where he lived at time of death - which the index usually does. I called the funeral home that handles burial for people who die indigent in Essex County, and they say they did not bury him. That most likely means that he either didn't die in Essex County or that there was a family member to claim the body. They said there is a very slight possibility that the body hasn't been released for burial yet.

Thanks for the PM's asking if we were ok after the police convention near my house over the weekend. We survived, although we still don't know what the hell was going on. Nothing in the paper. My husband said he'll check with one of the guys at work who is friends with many of the local cops.

I mostly stayed away from the computer this weekend enjoying the quiet with husband and youngest out of the house and the nice weather.

I got fired Saturday.

Got up today, applied for unemployment and SNAP (food stamps) and went out job-hunting. Seriously thinking about going to Diesel Driving Academy if I can swing the finances. A 20-week course for a CDL that I can turn around into $40k/year?

Consider I made roughly $12k last year.

If it's any consolation, around here right now the only jobs seem to be either in the medical field, machinists or autocad and drivers. There is a huge demand for drivers, evidently. Almost makes me want to go out and get a CDL, myself.

I love them both.

When I had an acreage in Oklahoma (circa 1995), at one point I had four goats. There are two stories that I find rather entertaining that I hope you wil enjoy.

First of all, on that acreage I had a rather large in-ground swimming pool. Two of the goats that I owned were escape artists; they were very adept at getting out of their pen. The other two, not so much.

At any rate, the two little Houdinis would go to the pool and drink from it every chance they got. The chlorine in the pool water did not agree with their stomachs, and they would get indigestion and become very bloated.

Turns out, according to the vet that I used at that time, that goats are incapable of burping. Because of this, if something wasn't done to remedy their sick tummies, eventually their stomachs would rupture and they would die.

The fix? Pepto-Bismol.

The odd thing was that the little male (Jake) got to where he loved the Pepto and would come and beg for it, gently head-butting you to ask for it, and since it was harmless otherwise, we'd generally give him a swig now and then... and he'd walk around with a little pink-streaked beard, like some kind of glam rocker.

The other story concerns Esther, the female escape artist.

She would, as mentioned above, pretty much escape from the goat pen at will and roam the property. This problem came to a head when she started meeting the electric co-op's meter reader at her car and butting her when she tried to get out of her car. She would also jump on the hood of the car (!) and just behave as a general nuisance.

One day I got a letter from the electric co-op informing me that the next time the meter reader had this kind of trouble, they would cut our electricity off.

We ended up giving all four goats to some friends who had a larger farm.

If that's in Penn, I'm guessing it's water and sand haulers.

...and Seyla, you might want to snoop around in places where drivers are in high demand. You might find a company willing to train you in exchange for a time commitment or something like that..
