BoA is holding my cash hostage until next Thursday.

Just FYI... Bank of America pissed me off.

I deposited two checks. They allowed me the money from the first check, about $100. The second check, around $600, is being held hostage until Thursday. Why? Who the fuck knows. Not even the CS rep could give me a good answer. "That's federal guidelines, m'am".

Don't give me that fucking bullshit. This wasn't a strange check from a strange company. This is a check from my EMPLOYER, whom I've deposited checks from before - without a single problem.

Not to mention she tried to tell me that I obviously told my $600 check to go to my savings account. I tried to tell her that's not possible, I remember selecting "checking" and she attempted to attribute the mistake directly to me. "So... are you saying computers don't occasionally make mistakes and take incorrect input?" The CS rep went on to mutter something about it was being held because I overdrafted my account. I had called the previous day to bank of america and they read back the exact seconds of my transactions - I should NOT have overdrafted. I deposited first and THEN withdrew. This dumb cunt of a CS rep tried to convince me otherwise.

God. Damn. I'm so angry. Oh, and they so WONDERFULLY increased my line of credit on my credit card. Not like I fucking wanted them to do that. They did it to cover my "overdraft" because THEY are fucking holding my check hostage. Where's the smiley banging his head on a brick wall?

I hate that shit. My bank pulled that on me once. I put in a check and when time to pay my house payment came up it still hadn't cleared and it resulted in a late payment. I went apeshit on them but they just kept giving me the "it's policy to hold checks up to 14 business days" bull crap. It's 2008, there's no reason whatsoever that banks shouldn't have the ability to check funds and clear checks in a timely manner if not immediately.

Calling the ATM fraud department.

In case anyone needs it, this is what the associate just told me to reach a rep in ATM fraud:

Actually there is... it's called the short term money market. They make interest off your money for 14 days

Jesus, and we complain about having to wait four days.

It's not just BoA, who I have as well, and drive me insane sometimes too. I found an old life insurance policy I got about 15 years ago. I pay it by a regular deduction from my checking account every month. A few months back I decided to pay it by actually writing a check as I stopped all automatic withdrawls. They sent me a bill within 3 Days. Last week, I decided to totally cancel the policy, It isn't reallt a big amount, and get back the cash value, which is around $2,500, which will fund my upcoming trip to Las Vegas. The CS drone told me that A. It would take 7 to 10 days to process the request BEFORE the surrender form was even mailed to me, then once they receive it, 10 to 14 days before a check could be cut and and mailed. Three frigging weeks from the moment of my call. Unbelieveable. But that's how it is when you want your money back from any entity. They can take iit from you like magic, but take forever to give it up. Same with Unemployment insurance. Work for 10 or 15 years and keep pay it every month, then get the 3rd degree when you need it.

I used to use Bank o America for my business, but I switched to Commerce Bank for this exact reason.

BoA would alternate between "corporate policy" and "federal guidelines" as their excuse for unnecessary delays in clearing my money. The first business check I deposited there, they made me wait two weeks and 6 days before I could access the money!!

When I went to close my account they laid the sales pitch hard, trying to feed me a line that all other banks have the same policies. Well, if you deposit a check by 6pm at Commerce bank, the funds are available the next day.

I uselocal banks and credit unions for almost everything. That way, my banker knows me on sight - in fact, he's in my Rotary Club, so I see him every week. You can get a LOT farther a lot faster with someone who actually knows who you are than with some knucklehead over the phone.

Plus, in my hometown, at least, the local banks don't seem to be terribly affected by the national crisis. I think they tend to be more conservative with loans, and it's harder to defraud someone that lives in your neighborhood, so they didn't pull the same stunts that the big national banks did.

This is why I dropped all the major banks in favor of our small town bank.
They know me by name. They don't hold my checks and they have all the
same services as the mega banks do.

No more being treated like a number.

Yet another reason I love direct deposit...it's all electronic so, as long as your employer gets the file uploaded on time, nothing has to clear anything.

BoA suggested setting up direct deposit. Irony is, I had already filled out the paperwork through my work but they're just slow it seems.

They must be...it takes about two minutes to change on our accounting software and I can't imagine it being being much different for other systems.

I stopped using BoA because they used to do stuff like this on a regular basis for reasons unknown. The straw that broke the camel so to speak was when Bunnie and I deposited one of her checks into our account and the next day it was overdraft, the deposit was missing, and we had to pay all the overdrafts while they figured it out. Turns out it was their fault, but I was never given back those fees which were taken erroneously.

Now we bank at US Bank and have had almost no hiccups. (I use almost becuase I personally feel it's impossible for any bank to do business completely above board, it's beyond their comprehension). At least I've never found random monies missing form my account with them, and I don't get hit for random fees here and there that I cannot explain the origin of, like I did with BoA. Good luck Ten.

Actually this reminds me of a problem I had with BoA on my personal account (not as bad as yours.) My account was "mysteriously" switched to another plan that (shockingly) featured a $40 monthly fee.

To their credit, when I pointed out the mistake they did refund the fees that had been deducted from my account. But by this time I already changed my Business account over to Commerce so I just went ahead and changed my personal account too.
