My Mood: | Mobile phone or PDA advice I'm looking for a new mobile phone -This is all an area I don't know much about so I thought I'd ask SLU for its advice I tend to be low usage - it doesn't even stay on most of the time but I'd like some web access - preferably WiFi, I already have a GSM data only modem for my laptop so don't want another mobile broadband account. I think I'm more after a PDA/Phone combination like the XDA or some type of Blackberry ? Can anyone point me at some I should be looking at - Size isn't a big issue - it will go in my handbag like the rest of my life - It's really just to have some internet access on the rare times I'm not near a computer so cost is a possible issue (say under £100 - though I am due a phone upgrade on my current account) - I prefer a full keyboard even if small (I can't text for toffee) Any ideas or suggestions? EDIT: I don't want an iPhone - at least I don't think so

| You'll struggle to get a smartphone (PDA/phone) for that price unless you buy second hand or sign a contract. HTC are worth looking at if cost is an issue. They have Qwerty keyboards and run the Windows mobile operating system. I recommended HTC to Mourna and she bought one and appears to love it. Unfortunately the ones with the slide out keyboards are over £200 Buy a HTC S710 (UK, QWERTY), #99HDD044-00 - eXpansys UK Buy a HTC S730 (UK, English, QWERTY), #99HDN013-00 - eXpansys UK HTC also do a more bulky model for £180 (keyboard isn't a slide out one but it still looks nice): Buy a HTC S620 (WM6, QWERTY), #S620_WM6_EU - eXpansys UK All the above have wifi. If you envisage using the internet a lot via the mobile provider, then you really would need to enter into a contract because it's damn expensive if you go the PAYG route. You'll burn through £s in minutes. |

| OK, the best HTC smartphone (S730), is rebranded & sold by O2 as the XDA Atmos. O2 - Xda - Device - Atmos I almost got one last year before my beloved spoiled me with a Nokia N95. It's a brilliant phone if you can live with a 2 megapixel camera and no GPS, and I've got a feeling the upgrade cost wouldn't be that much. ETA: That has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard btw. |

My Mood: | That sounds great - Thanks - I'm not bothered about the camera and the day I get lost and need GPS will be the day I left the phone on the kitchen table so I can live without |

Which might be a load of BS, but there you go. As you can see from the specs, you can also edit Office docs. It does so much for something so small that it's pretty mouthwatering. | |

My Mood: | I have a Samsung D900 which is ancient so I wanna change too. I was thinking the n95 but quite like the look of the curve too. Either will prob cost me an arm and a leg tho as I want PAYG/Sim free. I'm on o2 as is most everyone I know. Mobile to mobile calls and text are free and unlimited (within o2) as long as you top up £15 a month. I rarely ever use any of my credit as it is, a contract would just be a waste of money plus I don't think you get unlimited free calls just free minutes with a contract. (unless they changed it recently). |
