My god, somebody stop him before it's too late.
Ha ha Cody, but I'm kind of with Neil. Actually I'm actually much older than he is. Actually I actually growl every time someone uses the word literally either incorrectly or unnecessarily.

My country is divided into two camps, each believes that the other gets all its information from evil hate-spewing propaganda machines masquerading as news organizations.

We desperately need better communication but how can we hope to understand one an other when our language skills are declining so rapidly?

Why do people keep saying podium when they mean lectern?
Myself when they mean I or me?
Potential for possible?
That instead of who?

I know I need to just calm down and accept change instead of getting all worked up. But God damn it GET OFF MY LAWN!

Prolly, if someone I cared about was being driven crazy by the word.

Btw, I think 'prolly' is one of the few lazy txting words that is an improvement on the original. I like incorporating a whiff of "roll" into the concept of "perhaps", as if something that perhaps will happen gets on a roll and then ... prolly ... happens!

If you talk Dutch, you can simply avoid it.

I could avoid it, but only by using replacements like "in point of fact" or "truth be told". ^^

Yeah but you’ll sound ruder. You can just say “Not really, <whatever you were going to say after ‘Actually’>”

Actually is too good a word to let a day go by without actually using it at least once.

I know this is how it got started but then people started throwing the word in when they were just stating a fact and not correcting a mis-understanding. I've caught myself doing it numerous times. Maybe due to anticipating that someone will dispute what I'm saying. Or maybe because what I'm saying is a revision of something I think before I say it. Or maybe because so many people are saying it in so many sentences now that it just pops out of our mouths by habit, an unnecessary validation of almost everything we say.

I'm sorry that I assumed any of you are "guilty" of this. But I hear the word used gratuitously so very often now that I've found it creeping into my own sentences and it seems like a bit of a problem for us all.

Well it's irritating the hell out of me.

The topic of going without the word 'actually'. Alternatives and use cases to the promotion of more civil discourse without leaving bad tastes in other's mouths.

I didn't find that when I read through the otherwise interesting thread. Didn't I read far enough?

No. I think it's a worthy thread.

See (Did you know):
Twitter

And (It blows my mind that):
Twitter

But I see how it does take a bit of digging as that thread is pretty information dense.

..um... I'm not sure. Am I being annoying? Wait, was your question about being on the spectrum directed at me? I don't know if you are. But when you asked the question I thought maybe someone was suggesting that I am... maybe in a joking way...? Hey look! A butterfly!

Except that was an interrogative (Did you know?), not a statement so of course changing the wording changes the meaning since it becomes a statement after the change. Changing an interrogative to a statement didn't answer the question, it evaded it.

And if you look at the left side of the screen on that person's Twitter page? They want us to support them?

Oh oh excellent! Thank you I'm going to read it now.

So I read part of it and then I tried to chime in but I don't know how to operate Twitter at all. After I hit "tweet" I couldn't find that part of the thread again. Still: "Did you know?" I like it a lot better than "Actually..."

Fixed.

But seriously, if you click on the date and time of the post rather than the name the individual post should come up and Alexandra knows how to thread twitter properly. (She bills herself as a lady who explains things, I post her stuff semi regularly as I usually find it insightful.)

Indeed. While I was there I took a side trip on a completely different but equally fascinating subject.

I did miraculously figure that out yesterday but while I have you here giving out tips. When I read a tweet I want to read the replies but I don't know how to make them appear on my screen.
