My sister, who is in NH, posted a pic the other day of the snow coming down and a snowblower being used. My brother, who moved to FL, posted a complaint that their overnight temp was 33' F and his forecast showed it climbing back up into higher temps in a day or so.

Needless to say I gave him precisely 0 sympathy.

Now, that sounds like paradise, but it's a real problem for us. Between the unusually warm temperatures and the general lack of rain so far this season, there is no snow in the mountains. The mountain snowpack is where most of our water comes from. Without snow, especially on the heels of the drought we recently went through, we're in big trouble.
Maybe it's not that bad. And I'm enjoying the warm weather.

It's fairly standard here too, the odd 40 plus day is to be expected and melting ashphalt are hazards Sydneysiders expect around this time of year.

Where this year is different however, is in the sheer number of consecutive days we've been getting it and can continue to expect it to last. Also, we're talking coastal regions here. Penrith and Liverpool are maybe an hour from the coast and in the foothills of the Blue Mountains.

Ugh. Yeah, if you have really hot days like that for days in a row, it can get physically draining fast. Hope you guys can get a break soon.

The cold spell is starting to loosen and tomorrow the temps will climb to a blazing 40 degrees!

I'm taking the afternoon off from work so I can let the dogs run loose in the dog park for at least an hour. We're all going stir-crazy in the house.

Aaand snow.

We got all of 1/2 inch of it the other day. Except on the cars where it was an inch or so with a thick layer of ice underneath.

There's something insane about having to chisel your car out of the deep freeze while the ground is essentially clear.

I'd tell you how much snow -we- got, but it would sound like I'm doing some kind of humble bragging. So, I'll just say it snowed here, too.

After one whole day of high temperatures which melted almost all of the past snow drops we've had, the city is back to minus one thousand and covered in white. I don't have a car, so for me, it's just very pretty (no shoveling or scraping windshields, etc.)

Misting rain here and ice on things. A sweltering 29F is our high for the day (currently 27F) and 80% 'wintery mix and blustery'. Tonight's low keeps being revised downwards and is currently at 22F with a slight chance snow/sleet. Tomorrow's high is projected to be 38F so time to break out the shorts...

We're into our 2nd week of near-zero temps. Today the forecast is for 10-10-11-11-10-9-8 (by the hour) as we head to evening.

We put the trash and recycling bins down at the end of the driveway. It's a gentle slope and is now a sheet of solid ice. But today, husband slipped trying to recover them and hurt his knee again So it falls to brave, intrepid Cindy to do it.

I stayed in the grass along the side of the pavement, tied a rope to one bin and then retraced my steps. Pulled the rope and dragged the bin because it fell over. Cindy ain't no macho dummy

The recycling bin is trickier. It can stay there as far as I'm concerned.

It was 19 F when I woke up at 4am. It was 19 F when I got up at 7am. Sun is out but things are iced up. My gate was all frozen shut as well. Later on I hear water pouring and freaked out thinking water pipe broke, was frozen and now has thawed. Nope. Turns out the gutter on the building was full, frozen and the weight has pulled it somewhat away from the building on the end that is right above my gate :/ The snow/frost/ice on the roofs was melting, running into the gutter and flowing away from the downspout thanks tot he damage. This resulted in a waterfall onto my gate and a small part of the deck which froze and is all slippery as fuck. Thank goodness the weather is supposed to be warming up after today. In fact claims of possible 70s by Saturday.

Weather here is about as ideal as could be imagined from a creature comfort perspective... but we could really really really use more rain. It's -supposed- to be our wet season and we've yet to have more than a half day of drizzle.

Our temperatures haven't been awful - low 50s as highs, upper 40s as lows - but the grey goo is getting downright depressing. It's been foggy until about midday, when the fog raises to become an overcast, only to lower back to the valley floor by mid evening. And the fog here is no joke. We rate the fog by the number of dashed lines we can see in the middle of the road as we're driving in it. Yesterday morning on my way to work was a solid one-liner.

We're expecting a band of rainshowers to come through Friday and stir up the atmosphere a bit, so maybe a day or two break from the overcast/fog.

This made me laugh, and it's weather related so I'm placing it here...

We're in the middle of a Nor'easter, and when it's over my particular location will have seen 0" of snow. Nothing wrong about that at all......

Not sure what we had today. High winds. Government (and almost everything else) was closed.

We had snow. Scotland is done. No one can leave now . Or should I say ... Brexit 8) .

Okay, that does not work as a joke.

But seriously! Snow to knees in Glasgow! No transport, all's closed and shops are empty. It is around -10 celsius so not bad cold wise.

It is not that weather is that bad as my home town had -30 celsius winter with snow as tall as people and opposite for summers with dry air. In UK it is lack of infrastructure for that or resources. Last year Glasgow got a centimetre of snow tops. Over 3 days in whole winter.

Photo taken yesterday somewhere along the East coast of the U.S. I believe the object front left is an elephant attempting to avoid drowning.
