See, this is all proof that we who think we are older and wiser still get wet feet. Or something.

Also, Switzerland is really another planet to me now. But that's a whole 'nother story and nothing to do with the topic. I should just remember that four-five hours in Europe means interesting weather contrasts. I was quite good at long-distance trips but hey, this was *one night* and "just up the road a few hundred kilometers".

A very chilly night too. And hey, cute and simple little village hotel but they still had feather duvets and feather pillows. And I'm allergic to feathers. I only realised once we got back from eating.

It was a long, LONG night, for that reason. Because I was too polite to try and find somebody to ask for something synthetic (it was the evening that their own restaurant was closed, and it's a tiny place with just a few rooms so I did the whole British didn't want to disturb thing).

I asked at breakfast if they even *had* bedding without feathers, and got "well of course. You should have hammered on the "staff only door".

I am probably too polite. And there is Ventolin.

Once it rained forty days and it rained forty nights
And he cried and he cried and he cried and he cried
On the forty first day, he passed away
He just dehydrated and died
He went up to heaven, located his dog
After that, he rejoined his arm
Below all the critics, they took it all back
Cancer robbed the whore of her charm
His ex-wife died of stretch marks
His ex-employer went broke
The theologians were finally found out
Right down to the ground, the jail house burned down
And the earth suffered perpetual drought - Loudon Wainwright, The Man Who Couldn't Cry

Rain due here tomorrow. Rain! Rain in June in central coastal California. I was born in San Francisco, only 50 miles away from here. It NEVER rained in June before, not in my lifetime, which is more than long enough to draw a good solid climatological baseline in the June dust.

Rain!

We had quite the storm on Sunday it started to thunder for about 1/2 hours before the rain started. The rain poured down and there was hail as well.
The weather so far has been cold it is June and I can count about 10 nice days since February. It even gets cold at night.

For anyone who was mildly jealous, the PNW is back to normal today.

Dammit. We always just hope spring/summer happens on a weekend here. No such luck this year, I guess. Does anyone need any lawn moss? I have a hell of a crop.

32C? Is that all? I'll happily take that off your hands. It's supposed to get up to 44C here tomorrow.

The north west of Europe is not used to these temperatures.
Buildings are more designed to let the head in, instead of keeping it out as much as possible.
A lot of schools, offices, hospitals and houses don't have airco, because these temperatures are rare over here.
Maybe 5 - 10 days a year have temps of 30 or a bit above it. Most of the time in mid summer.
And the influence of the sea nearby makes it awfully humid and sticky most of the time with these temperatures.

30+ is okay when you don't have to work (like me at the moment) but 44.....

Yeah, without air conditioning, 32 can get a bit rough, especially if there's humidity. We have a saying around here: Yeah, it's hot, but at least it's a dry heat.

Yeah I am definitely not suited to that kind of heat.

So did the sensible thing and bought beer, ice-cream and milkshakes.

It's only 24C here, which is a fine temperature, but we're at 70% humidity and my thighs are chafing like a couple boiled hams.

the Western and Southern part of Europe have a now a very long dry spell, and a general shortage of rain. The Netherlands is currently on track to have one of the 5% of the driest years.

KNMI - Grote droogte in Zuid- en West-Europa

sorry its in dutch.

for me these days when it rains its "wow! it rains!", and thats something I never would have imagined saying in this country.

Yup, the public lawns start to color brown already. That normally starts (if at all) end of July till mid August. Summer is early this year.

I don't think we've had a sunny day for two weeks. My car is looking putrid but I can't get outside to wash it.

Temperatures here have been in the 80's and 90's and rain has been the only saving grace to cooking it down a bit. Also rain is making my garden look awesome!
