The second egg is wobbling a bit. YAY another one! It's going to hard to wait for all the others to hatch. They got laid at different times. The last clutch was laid only a couple of days ago.

I don't hear that joke nearly enough.

At this point I don't know if the gecko is male or female, though I suspect it's a girl based on the temperature it incubated at. Lower temps produce girls.

When I had a day gecko, a relative asked numerous times (so it wasn't a typo) "How's the geico?" *facepalm*

Congrats on the babies Papa Sredni!

If my geckos could talk, I think they'd probably sound a little like Apu. I'm not sure why though. The Geico Gecko shouldn't have that accent. He's from Madagascar.

Okay, herpetology as a hobby kind of ruins commercials, TV, and movies for me. Heh.

I'm waiting impatiently for the sibling to emerge from its egg. Till then, here's more insufferable cuteness. MicroGecko™ is learning not to fear the Giant Hand.

He's finally emerged, and has almost figured out what his legs are for.

The tail at the bottom of the picture is MicroGecko I.

I had no idea the markings could be so different from one to the other. MicroGecko I has spots, but MicroGecko II has racing stripes on his torso and that lovely banded pattern on his tail.

The markings will change when they get older, but I'm not sure how much.

Mom is bright yellow with some spots on her tail, and dad is yellow with brown on his head, and has an orange tail. Mom's considered a Hypomenalistic "High Yellow" and Dad's a Carrot Tail. Fun With Genes.

Are you sick of MicroGeckos yet? I sure hope not because this is only the beginning! There are eight more eggs in varying states of incubation on my computer desk, all from different moms (but the same dad - he's such a slut).

Here's a size comparison shot of the MicroGeckos™ and a good, old-fashioned American Quarter. It amuses me greatly that MicroGecko I™ thinks he can scare the Giant Hand by lunging at it and pretending to bite it. His head's tiny. I doubt he even has teeth right now, let alone any power behind those miniscule gumflappers of his. Still, you have to admire the little guy and his GIANT CAJONES.

And just for posteriority (or something), here's what the 'rents look like.

Mom.

And here's Lazarus, the dad - looking very annoyed at me for taking his picture:

He's now living in separate quarters so the girls can have a bit of a break from his rather boisterous love-making.

I never thought I'd wind up in a pile of tribbles like this, but they're pretty darn squee-worthy.

Congrats Sredni! I'm not really a fan of crawly things up close & personal, but enjoy them! I am fascinated by the colors.

I have to admit, when I just looked at the pics of mom & dad, I thought MOM was walking on the back of a sofa. My first thought was "Holy shit! She's huge You let them run around the fucking house???"

Then I saw DAD, and you were holding him in your hand. I sat here going back & forth for a while until I realized Mom was on your leg. Now the sizes make sense.

I still couldn't deal with em in my house. Nephews had iguanas and I made sure they were locked up every time I visited. And spent the entire time watching the floors to make sure they didn't escape. I can look in the tank and go "nice.." but that's bout it.

Leopard Geckos are far, far, far easier to deal with than Iguanas. Trust me, I know. I had several iguanas for years, and they are just a royal pain in the ass to deal with what with the specialized diet, need for direct UV light and, of course, the room issue.

Most of mine had the run of the house. The nice thing about iguanas is they potty train themselves. Mine all went to the bathroom in the tub, and then just hung out under a heat lamp in the livingroom the rest of the time.

The geckos, being of the clawed variety, cannot climb glass the way a common house gecko can. They live in their own enclosures and come out when I want to interact with them. They don't get to come out unless heavily supervised.

UPDATE:

MicroTub-o-Lard hatched about ten minutes ago.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BELLY GECKO!

edit: the right hind leg is fine. That is just a piece of dirt from the incubator. His leg is folded under his gigantic belly.

Here's a little something they probably don't teach you in biology class: Gecko eggs grow as they near the hatch date.

I've told people this a few times and nobody ever believes me. They say, "How is that even possible? Where does all the extra mass come from?"

Heck if I know. But here's the picture to prove things. I've only brightened the image so you can see the eggs. The top one will probably hatch this weekend.

Interesting. Maybe they're just becoming less dense. After all, the baby gecko will have to have the equivalent of a chest cavity.

I dunno. The newest baby is huge. When I pulled out the empty shell I marveled at the magnificent feat of Reptilian Origami that must have taken place to make that lizard fit into such a small space.

It's like a Gecko TARDIS in there. There's got to be a little living room, a kitchenette, and possibly a half bath in those eggs.
