Well that's it, I'm out

. It was a good run, but it had to end some time.

Walking home tonight from a movie, I was thinking about the state of my life and it occurred to me that too much of it goes to SL. I come home and if I have no RL plans I immediately sign in to SL, even if I don't have any particular desire to. Somedays I actually get up and go for a walk right after I sign in. When I do interact with the world, I don't create anything anymore, aside from some little doodads when they add a new feature now and then.

So, I came home and uninstalled the various versions of Second Life I had installed, deleted the installers, and erased the source code. Then I cancelled all 8 of my alts, though I temporarily left my original account because a friend of mine still raids it's inventory from time to time. It will go away soon too. Then I deleted my megabytes and even gigabytes of photoshop files, saved scripts, animations, sounds clips, and maya models. Next I erased the SL web services and pages still hanging around on my hosting accounts. I cancelled all the email accounts associated with my SL accounts. And finally, I removed the bookmarks in my browsers to SL related sites.

There was no drama, no last straw, nothing happened in SL at all. And I suppose that's the point. I used to love creating things. It was what brought me to SL in the first place. But building just doesn't do anything for me anymore. I loved exploring, but now I just feel like running back to the private sims I frequent after half an hour of trying to look around. It's just... too big. Walking around downtown in RL is more fun than wondering around SL these days, at least for me. I have friends that I'll miss, but most of them stopped playing years ago, though some of them still sign on now and then for work. There's always IM too

I don't regret my time in SL. I built many things that would never have left my imagination otherwise, got to know people from all over the world, owned a sim, created some firsts, was a member of the FIC if as a somewhat late joiner

, went to an SLCC and got a tour of the labs, SL was even my day job for the better part of a year.

Yup, after 4+ years, it's time to call it a day. Heh, I was never that well known, though some of you may not know you knew me way back when as Rickard Roentgen. This thread is mostly for me as the punctuation at the end of my Second Life sentence. Even my acount here at SLU is short for this world. I will miss it, but it will only serve as a temptation to come back to SL.

Wow, this made me cry, as someone who has had the fortune to have known you under several names i am saddened that yet one more incredibly talkented person is leaving, add to your talent is the fact that you are a nice person, not saying all this to make you feel guilty or to try to get you to stay, you need to take care of you first and if leaving is what you need, i wish you the best in whatever you go into next, and i am pretty sure that with your talent, you will be great!
i will cherish everything that you have given me whatever the name it has, i use many of those things daily and pull out some of the others when i wanna impress people
