Hi! I'm ohn.

I have been visiting (lurking in) SLU for, gosh, more than half a year I think. Mostly I read threads in the general SL discussion area and the other grids area. I have really appreciated these forums when I was trying to understand what was going on in SL from a historic perspective, like the why's behind the ways things are/are not done with mesh or the marketplace or why people hate/love particular aspects of SL. When I am feeling merchanty (rarely any more) I check out the virtual business area to see what i can learn.

Weirdly, since I am not very good at fashion, one of my favorite no-brainer threads is the vanity thread. I LOVE seeing new pictures of beautiful places and people modeling their favorite skins and clothes, and the artistic bent people have in using wind/light settings in the photos.

Since signing up for SL, I found out about other similar 3D environments, so in addition to hanging out in SL, I've also visited a couple of opensim-based grids like OSGrid and Inworldz?(i think that's what it was called), and got an account on the Kitely worlds, and most recently tried out the Cloud Party. I've even tried setting up my own opensim on my computer, but err, let's not talk about that

I joined SL after learning that you could run a real business in it, but the truth is, I just have zero talent as a merchant and I am about 333% quasi-ADD, and I get distracted by pretty things or stuff that other people are doing and I love playing tourist and flying along the LL roads. I've given a half-hearted shot at animations using Qavimator, then got distracted by trying to make sculpties (spent lots of money on inworld sculpty tools) to put my sort of okay (err, yeah, by my standards) animations in, then got distracted by trying learn scripting to make my sculpties more fun to sit in with my sort of okay animations, then got distracted cause i learned that inworld sculpty tools can be limiting on the quality of sculpties and oh yeah, there's something called mesh, and hey, there's this FREE (wished I woulda figured that out earlier) tool called blender that can do EVERYTHING. So for a while, at this point, mostly I've been spending my time watching Gaia videos rather than actually playing in world. In between all that, LOL, every and then I get fascinated with the prospect of owning a little land, then a little more, then a lot, then come to the conclusion that owning a lot of land sucks, sell it all, start over. Right now, I'm trying a combination of having a small parcel in SL and a few worlds in Kitely while I decide whether I like it or not. In SL, I consistently spend way more money than I should and almost always have fun.
