ok, just a couple comments, my first job in SL was a Dancer/Stripper which is not the same as an escort, their are also Hostesses, Waitresses, Sales Reps, Bartenders, Security Personel.... All hired by Businesses you can find these jobs by looking in Classifieds.

Also my second job was opening my own store, now you have to learn to make something first using one or all of the last 3 on the list but then you rent a space in a mall or buy some land and open your store to sell your wares. You can also open a Resell store which are items made by others and sold by you (if you have copy and trans perms to the items). Hope that helps, good luck!

heehee. The first money I earned in SL was from an NCI Show and Tell, when I was about a week old. Now I'm moving onto more advanced things, yesterday I went to a class to learn how to do nano-prims. That was such an awesome class I gave the teacher a big tip, and only now I realise that the amount I tipped him was the same amout I won in the first Show and Tell.

Killing high level Lindens in damage enabled areas is a good way to make money, once I got a 10000 linden drop from Torley, and if you camp their respawn point you can make a small fortune.

No, go into advanced>rendering>features and untick the paletised textures option, but remember to do it on each log in, its not persistant.

One thing I did that worked when I first joined SL to earn money was put my credit card on file and just bought 1000 L as a starter and then since I liked to party I would go to clubs with things called "sploders" and just play them all night while I had fun.
I made lots of money and have sustained myself very well this way. Sometimes you loose on sploders but when you have a lucky night you can make a killing

The best way to make money with Second Life is to uninstall it so you can save yourself al the money you will expend in Lindens.

Seriously though, as others have said it's a good idea to load up some 'starter' cash and go form there. Plenty of random things you can do to make enough lindens to get by. Plus if you are thrifty you will find that you can shop quite well in Second Life without spending any money.

Shortly after I joined I tried to buy L$ with my one and only credit card which LL refused for some reason. Oh well, penniless, I debated giving up on SL but have found a way to make money.

I go to various locations where they have fishing by Splash Aquatics. No L$ outlay required, just catch 20 fish and if you're lucky you get on the board, gold for the highest amount, or silver or bronze and a prize for the biggest fish. Top prize ranges from 40L to 100L in various locations. One bumps the prize up to 500L on a Sunday but no luck with that yet

You also have the option to buy lindens from outside sources.
I and many others use Xstreet SL - Second Life Commerce
It is safe and almost instant. It is also a better exchange rate. If LL won't take your card, there are other sources that probably will.
