I'm really new with SL and seem to be stuck in the korean section where I teleported in from the starting place. very few folks talk to me, a dog actually knocked me for aloop. Anyway, there's nothing here that I can find. How do I get out?

open search, search for something, the teleport.
or open the map, scroll around, and teleport.

welcome to SLU. I suggest you teleport to the Bear infohub or Shelter and set home to there. Shelter is a great place to meet some other newbies and get some guidance. If you are still confused, try the new citizen hub at Caledon Nova Civis for tp directions to Shelter and other places.
