Hi,

I just heard about Second Life today. Sounded like fun so I created a name and downloaded the software.

Now all excited to check out Second Life first hand, the program will not connect. I am a basic member since I do not want to spend money on something sight unseen.

I tried checking out the Knowledge section. All that did was tick me off even more. I started a ticket to them, but it sounded more of a rant than anything else so I deleted it.

All the error message tells me is that it is unable to connect and to go to secondlife.com/status. That page says everything is fine.

Please help me.

Assuming no announcement on the blog and things are reported to be ok:

In my experience when I try over a period of time and still cannot connect it's almost always having to do with my internet connection.

The following are things to check:

The connection itself
Traceroute (there may be a clog along the data path)
Firewall blocking or permissions not given
DNS (ISP related)

I've been having DNS problems, I finally gave up and moved to OpenDNS for that. German ISPs are having intermittent problems. Anyway, if you keep getting DNS error, try using OpenDNS.
