I'm a little lost...

Hi I'm new. I've been in SL for about 2 weeks now and I'm a little lost. I'm sure you're probably tired of these threads...

So I'm having trouble making friends. Not for the lack of people out there, I'm just having trouble meeting them. I've tried sitting in the coffee shop and talking, but am having trouble getting into conversations. I do always ask if I can join them, but I feel like I'm intruding.

I've joined groups, but the ones I've found seem to have little to no activity. I'd like to look into some fantasy/medieval role play, but when I've gone to those areas I didn't know what to do or how to get into it. I'd really just like someone to show me around, so I can see if it's something I'd like. Also just to show me around a little bit in non-roleplay areas, so I can maybe meet some people to talk with.

Sorry for the uber-newbie thread!

Hi Gaia! I'd offer to meet up with you and show you around, but I'm only in-world at all sorts of irregular times.

Maybe some of these other good folks round here can show you a good time.

Teleport in and you'll usually find people eager to introduce the neophytes to their world. Just stay away from the Gor sims for a little while.

There's a very nice-looking Port Luskan (D&D Geek Alert!) sim, but I've never actually seen anybody else there...

Good luck Gaia. I'd offer to show you around but the only role play I participate in is letting Bear orbit me in one of his flying contraptions. But if you get bored, feel free to IM

Welcome Gaia

The suggestions the others have given you are all good, try talking to people in the RP areas you visit - Most will be really keen on bringing new people in to their special worlds, Just ask OOC (Out of character) if someone would show you round or help you

Have a look for social events as well , they can be great places to meet people , but the shared interest connection is easier if the event is tied to a particular theme or interest group.

IT can take a while to get settled , think of it like moving to another city ... though to be honest everything in SL seems much faster so before you know it you'll have too many friends and have to open an Alt account just for some peace and quiet

Sweetie,

I soo know how you feel !! I'm kind of a shy person myself and I don't make friends easily. I would be delighted to meet with you in SL and show you about a bit, or just hang out and visit.

I'm USUALLY on around 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. SL time [depending onmy son's homework] to around 1:00 a.m. Look me up if the timing is convenient!!

Sooz

Welcome, Gaia!

If you lurk around SLU long enough, you'll hear about the parties and event we (ir)regularly have...it's a great chance to meet some really fun people in-world.

Oh, and it's tradition to poke new forum members, so...

Welcome to SL and SLU!

An SL forum is one of the best places to get your footing inworld, so you're off to a good start just by landing here.

The Elf Circle islands are a wonderful introduction to fantasy role-playing and they have some very active groups.

If you're online anytime in the evening EST (approx. 9-11pm), I can send you a landmark to some of the most interesting places and even take you on a tour. If you join the Elf Circle group, you will never lack for fun activities and ways to meet some very creative residents.

Just do a search for "Beebo Brink" and send me an IM to make contact.

Hi Gaia and Welcome! If you hook up with Sooz, both of you come around and hang out on my deck for some chatt'n and dancin', and I'll take you on a little boat tour of my home sim (Liome). Lots to do and friendly folks. And as Beebo and others have said, hanging out here is a great way to meet good people and find events. May your Second Life be joyous!

Oh yeah, and here's yer poke!

First, welcome to SL and SLU Gaia.
It's so hard to find good places to hang and socialize in SL.
I assume from your name that you are female. If so please drop by Venus Beach. It is a very friendly women-only sim. If there is anyone there you will probably be welcomed with open arms.
Many of the girls are les - but not all. And no matter what your orientation, you will find a lot of girls who will be glad to share landmarks and other goodies - and you may well find some that can help you out. We have members who are just as new as you are, and some long-timers to boot.
Do come by - if I'm there you are guaranteed a hug.
Good luck!

Welcome to SL and SLU Gaia!

I would recommend doing a search for New Citizens Plaza because you'll meet lots of brand new users in the same position, along with others whose very existence is apparently to help everybody - plus there are plenty of free courses to take, which are of course a great way to meet people, not to mention their obvious benefits if you intend to hang around for long.

We will have entertainment and contests. Learn how easy it is to become a resident of a Role Play sim. Come and meet the current residents, and the sim owner. It will be a great time of fun for all. I'll have to check the Ren Festival out Beebo. That sounds like fun. I also may IM you about the Elf circle and about the tour, if it's okay.

Walker: I tried hanging out at the New Citizens Plaza, but I just didn't feel it there. Maybe it was just me, but I was seeking out areas with more established people.

Beathag: I think I might check Venus out, one of the two friends I actually made has this as one of her picks. I hadn't really thought about orientation in SL, since right now I'm not looking for anything on that level.

Sooz and Craig: I wasn't up late enough to see you guys. Because of the time change I'm getting sleepy early (and I'm in Central time zone). I went to bed at 10:30 pm central time, so I think it was a little early to catch ya'll.

Thanks for all the suggestions! By this weekend I should be able to try most of them, or contact ya'll about them.

Last night I went shopping (again). I ended up spending too much at Aveda for hair....

Who have you met Gaia?I know a lot of the girls.
And nobody cares what your orientation is. If you're female, you're welcome.
I'm on Eastern time, and am having the same problems with the time shift. Feel free to send me a personal message, and maybe we can work out a time to meet.
