Mesh Heads: Utilizator

Utilizator, better known for his anime work and the Kemono avatar, has released a more realistic styled bento head called the "Normie."

It's copy/mod, has in-built Omega compatibility and is only 500Ls, a fraction the price of most heads. On the negative side, while there are inbuilt static animations, there are no full cycling animations. The head also has one or two less makeup/tattoo layers than other heads. While there are slots for eyeliner/mascara and lipstick/gloss, there's nothing for blush/freckles/tattoos etc. On the other hand, the head is mod, so it might be possible to kitbash a solution by adding extra shells, similar to how you can add a tattoo layer to the Kemono body.

Blog post.

I bought this for an alt, very pleased with it! Love the built in Omega compatibility. Definitely worth checking out the demo. I just wish that he would make a realistic head to fit the Kemono avatar now.

I got it too. So far, I'm having fun with it, although, yeah, the minimal texture layers is a problem. But then again, Uti's stuff gets updated fairly frequently, unless someone makes a mod first.

Here are some pics I took with the head with some tsg skins, Vampy and F Tone in the Koko applier respectively.

I bought this head just curious as to what it would look like with certain skins on it. its good for L$500. i guess pros and cons? pros and cons.

+ Omega ready, no relay needed (tired of buying those stupid things)
+ Bento, so they won't looks the same on 2 people (though lets face it, skins play alot into that to.)
+ Can toggle makeup on and off without having to clear the layers
+ Can hide parts of the head so that hair can be fitted easier
+ Works with the lsl eyes, so you don't have have struggle with a pair of unrigged mesh eyes
+ The teeth look like teeth, not paper cutouts.

- The shape doesn't allow for many adjustments without it looking weird
- No blush or neck tat layer, so if you wanted to wear some makeup or facepaint that requires those slots you'll have to use a different head.
- The head seems a bit plump. Might be really good if your avatar is chubby but otherwise you've got a case of the babyface.
- Very minimal in the way of animations and some don't work right if your lips are adjusted to be thicker.
- The included shapes for the bodies are a bit... weird. they're weird. not gonna beat around the bush. I don't see anyone using them as is.
- No way to tint the eyebrows

I attached some pictures of avatars i put together with my maitreya body. i figured if i'm gonna use a head i wouldn't normally use, i might as well use a body i don't normally use. one is just normal, using pinkfuel's sora alabaster, the other is with the boi chest, using crystal doll also from pink fuel. Decided to use those skins as pink fuel is a pretty popular brand.

Ahah, as far as facial animation go, there's always the option of getting the 6DOO hud. It worked pretty well with this head. But yeah, if you don't wanna pend the extra 700L, you just have those static animations....for now anyways.

I've been looking into getting some sort of MESH head so I decided to try this out. I have previously been using the Maitreya body with a system head. I made a quick omega applier for the skin I've been using forever for the head. It fits pretty well with the maitreya body.

I had to adjust my sliders a bit from my normal base head because there were some gaps but it didn't take a lot to clear things up.

My main complaint is that the mouth is kind of weird. Like the lips are too large or something. I tried to adjust some settings but couldn't really find anything that really made it better. This may also just be a cast of not being used to it. Like the skin I use, I've used the same "face" for years now with very minor tweaks, so I'm very used to the way I "should" look.

The expressions are a little odd, I've posted some samples below. I also kind of hate that my smiler AO doesn't work at all with this head. I guess maybe I need to find some sort of new Bento smiler or something (it just smiles every few seconds).

I do like the basic style which is why I decided to give it a try, so I'll stick with it for a while probably.

I am very happy with the Normie head, and it was what made me wiling to dust off my maitreya. My only gripe was that it did not have any base skins like the other mesh heads UT had put out to date.

I haven't found a bento head I like yet. No matter how much I try to adjust there are some things that I couldn't change.

I tried this and was able to wear it with one of my regular shapes. The face was different but not too different and for the price I went a head and took the plunge.

New Bento Mesh Head:M4

Utilizator has rolled out a new anime mesh head, set up for Bento. Currently on version 1.1 it supports asymmetrical skins, allowing for different skin textures to be loaded onto the left and right side of the head.

Unlike its predecessors, the M4 has a hairbase tintable in HUD and the ability to tint eyelashes, eyebrows and the iris and sclera independently of one another. It also comes with two different nose options, changeable in HUD, for a simplified nose similar to the original M3 or a more doll-like nose similar to the M3 Venus. As with previous heads he has put out, ears are a toggle between a human ear and a pointed one using the HUD.

The head UV is a 1024 square map with the mouth and tongue now on a separate texture, allowing for more texture detail than previously. In terms of overall modelling, it's very similar to the M3, with large eyes (built into the head but using the Bento animation bones for blinking).

It remains compatible with M3, M3 Venus and the Kemono's eye textures, supporting the Kemono applier directly and M3 and M3V appliers through a retro loader. Eyelashes and eyebrows are a new UV.

The community that swears by his previous heads is adjusting. Using offsets to push the head bones into proper positioning for anime-style features disables or distorts the actions of some sliders. As a tradeoff, it doesn't suffer from the distortion caused by deformer animations failing to run properly and is extremely responsive to script commands.

Here are some shots of my own mug as an example of customization options and one of the early skins that have been released.
