Mesh Heads: Catwa

Catwa is the leading mesh head maker as of this writing, as her heads have gained a lot of popularity. She has the widest variety in terms of looks and her non-static heads are the most customizable of all the mesh heads. But the lead is not commanding; Lelutka and LOGO both follow a few points behind each other, with the three of them currently approximating about 50-60% of the mesh head market. As the market for heads grows, this may dilute, but we will see.

For women, Catwa has several "premium" heads that come fully featured: Jessica, Annie, Vampire Annie, and Gwen, priced at 3500L each and come with a lot of expressions. She also made several "basic" heads that start at 900L but you can buy add-on features such as blinking, more lip options, etc. As of this writing, the basics are: Aisha, Alice, Candy, Cindy, Linda and Sarah. There is also a static head, Nicki, that only has one expression with an open mouth. It is a great buy at 100L.

Catwa's heads are Omega compliant, and will accept Omega appliers as well as appliers designed specifically for Catwa heads.

For men, she has Jackson (premium) and Justin (basic). Both of these have L'Etre appliers built in, but I tend to find that for Jackson, the Hugh and Jason appliers from the Skinnery look best.

So Catwa is out again with a new basic head for women, Helena.

I really like that Helena head. Gorgeous nose. Yay for that!

Now I want to demo the Helena head with the Omega male head applier I have. I am so wanting an asian male head with finer features, and Helena head has a stronger structure.

The male Catwa heads do "something" with the eyes and mouth on an omega applier skin that is made for the generic sl head, while the female Catwa heads can take quite a few different appliers.

Classic male skins can be worn on female classic avatars, to make fembois, so eyes and mouth is not distorted on the classic skins when they are swatched on gender?

One thing I like about Catwa heads is they usually have realistic looking side profiles. I like Helena's nose.

I *love* the nose on Helena. What a profile! I find a lot of the previous heads a little too young-looking, so Helena is a nice progression. (This observation is not limited to just Catwa; a lot of mesh heads/skins look juvenile IMHO) I'm going to try her on when I get home from work with YS&YS skins. I haven't cared for previous Catwa heads as much - I find in general that the features look too large on the face area. But I've seen some astounding variations depending on the skin, so it's a case of demo demo demo. The price is pretty harsh too, and I don't usually need most of the features of a Catwa. But Catwa heads have far and away the most skins and makeup on offer. How many heads can I have before it's too many LOL?

Catwa is working on a new basic head (900L), Amy. She wanted to make a doll-like face and I think she achieved it.

I asked if Amy was for Bento and she said no, "Bento is another story." She is however testing things out for Bento. She also mentioned that she has collected pictures for a male Asian head that she will work on in the futre.

I don't know. Each of the mesh bodies are so different in shape and design. I dont know if someone who likes the Nyramith body and someone who likes Adam would find middle ground with a stock linden body - no matter how well designed.

What I would have loved was the ability to load new mesh bodies into the SL system rather than having to put them on like a suit over our system avatar mesh.

I was pretty meh on Catwa heads when the demos didn't come Omega enabled. All I could see was the Skinnery default skins. And they are SO not my style. Now that I can preview skins as well as shapes, I've purchased two.

It's amazing what giving your customers options can do, am I right? I started out with the $L100 Nicki. It looks great in pictures. Then I picked up the Amy, which is super cute. I'm tempted to pick up Dyana as well. This most recent run of faces has been right up my alley.

Need moar skins.

Finally dropped by Catwa to pick up the demo for the Justin Head. Here it is with my two favorite Skinnery appliers for Catwa:

I've got Lindens burning a hole in my pocket, so I may not be able to resist.

So, do male skin makers make a clean-shaven version? Or is Razor Ramon the throwback style icon of SL dudes?

Check out any LOGO applier, since they are all Omega appliers.

I am so tired of tan, blackhaired, with a stubble, stereotypic SL male.
Obviously the asian skins should have dark hair. But I don't think that head looks so asian?

Catwa male heads look so much better when advertised, than when I try them on alts.

Absolutely not saying the ads are photoshopped, but they do not work well with Omega appliers. The eyes or mouth are so special on the Catwa heads. Great with diversity, but when diversity means the same stereotype to teint and hair color + stubble, I don't like it. I get the impression that the only male skins that look great on Catwa, are those drawn for Catwa. Blond, fair, redhaired, freckled male skins are just not made. Not that they should look effeminate either. It is possible with badass males without black hair.

I tried all the catwa male heads and they made me look constipated. I wish I could remember the one that made me look like Bruce Willis staring into the sun while pooping, because that was a classic.

Too many male heads have squinty, piggy little eyes.
