My LOGO head comes with an expression HUD and I added 2 more HUDS -- all of which fit neatly in a small row at the bottom of my screen. The head has a limited automatic reaction to things I type (like sad, LOL, mad) or I can click an icon to manually change the expression.

Sure, you can do the same thing with a system head but it's no longer true that all mesh heads are 'lifeless and expressionless'.

Well that's cool.
I haven't been in world much lately, but I guess I saw the first iteration of these mesh heads, and it was sad, because everybody looked the same with the same face. Well, all the women did, at least.

I grabbed the Catwa Kori demo, but maybe I'm spoiled by my LOGO head. I just wasn't impressed. It made me look like I was puckering up and scowling

If you are using Omega appliers for it, yeah, you're probably not going to like it. It really does look better with appliers made for Catwa heads so you will have to shop for Catwa appliers so that the spacing and shading looks right. I've found one applier so far that is Omega that looks pretty good on it: The Skinnery's Lydia for LOGO and LAQ. All appliers are not made equally, so it will require a bit of testing to see what fits your taste.

A nice video. Facial expressions comes at 2-3 minutes. First different skins and makeups.

The demo for this looks nothing like the video. Not for me, anyway. I'll save the demo for now and revisit later. This gets way too confusing after a while.

From my own travels in mesh-head demo land, I've discovered that vacate deadpan expression (I call it the 'dead fish eye') can actually be fixed quite a bit with the right eye placement. If you set the mesh eyes up just right you really can minimize that creepy 100 yard stare; though not get rid of it completely.

This morning I went ahead and splurged on the Catwa Kori head.

I'm still not happy even after getting the skin and makeup fixed up. "Kori" is so new, I think, that there aren't a lot of skin appliers for the head. (At least I didn't find any at Izzie's store - still looking. But she has everything else).

The head was only $400L for Catwa members and I'll keep it in my inventory to see what else comes out. I just thought it was too angular rather than smooth, and the lips too pouty compared to my preference.

Question: with LOGO, I was told not to try to use other skin/makeup appliers on my "Alex" head. Does the same thing apply to Catwa?

I have the LOGO Chloe, and Alex, and I use other Omega appliers on them all the time. Most do work better on Chloe than Alex, though. I think because the Alex head has fuller lips, and not all skins are shaded right to work with lips that full. But some of them work well enough.

I took off my Omega HUD when I was fooling around with Catwa. It's a good head, but I need to find a good skin applier so it doesn't look so angular.

It's a whole other level of shopping, to be honest. The skinmaker in the pic I featured is Insol. I really only know them from Strawberry Singh's website. Strawberry did a montage for Kori, there are some leads there. You may need to check out some different skin brands to find something to suit you.

Even in that video, the lips look pretty unnaturally puffy to me with almost all the skins displayed.

Truer words were never spoken. Before I started pulling away from SL, it would have been like Christmas Day or something. Now, I'm so far out of things that I have to study up before I can even take the risk.

I did a little cruising on the marketplace. But again, more study is needed. I'm gonna have so many damned demos!

Clearly it's a full lipped head, how "unnatural" it appears to be depends on the skin you use and which ethnicity you want to portray. It's not ginormous like the Linda head, which was extremely large by any standard.

This is my first mesh head (Catwa Annie) + applier purchase.

I'm still playing around with makeup and add ons and I really think this face is stunning but am a little dismayed to find that many of my hairs (and I have TONS of hair) don't work with it. So there's that.

Another thing, and I wonder if anyone has experienced this, is the body applier that goes with the face is...um...well, let's just say I'm super picky about that. I was able to get a close match with one of my League skin appliers luckily.

There is also some odd shading on the neck that isn't relieved by adjusting wind-light settings. No one but me will probably will notice but I don't think I'm nit-picking.

So all this to say my first purchase is kind of a love/hate.

I was playing around with various head demos last night, but when I put my LOGO head back on, it looked like I was wearing white pancake makeup. I tried everything I could think of but nothing made a difference.

Took me forever to realize that I had forgotten to wear the "Omega" variation of the LOGO head rather than the generic LOGO, which explains why the makeup and skin weren't working.

My conclusion is that these things have overly complicated the art of avatar fashion and beauty. Whatever happened to buying a new skin and double clicking it, $PROFIT? Now I have to activate an extra router plus the mesh head, plus individual eyeballs, tongue, hairbase, etc., just to look like I want to look.

Question: do I need to do the same Omega process with LAQ and Catwa heads? I found a gorgeous Pink Fuel skin I want to use on all future heads.

With Catwa you have to wear a relay but with LAQ the Omega is built in. But the choice of applier (whether it's generic Omega or built for the head) is still a choice you will have to be wary of no matter what applier you buy.

If you have Morgana, that applier is just gorgeous and works well on a number of heads. LAQ, Eve, LOGO... just beautiful. I'm sure it works well on some others too. I haven't tried that on Kori yet. At least it comes with a thin lipped version of the lipsticks.

edit: Morgana looks lovely on Kori too.

And Catwa was kind enough to give us a map of all the different female heads using the same skin.

Catwa has a new basic head out, AnnaGrey. Photo by Mokatana Boa. It seems to be a variation of Kori, but with more features.
