    Maybe you could try steampunk designs for your paper?

    It's very big in SL-- excuse to wear elaborate formal stuff that would be impossible in RL. Try going to Caledon, Silent Sparrow, and Ordinal Malaprop for some good examples.

    I don't know, but you give off the sense of just staying here for the paper. Have some fun inworld!
