MY EYES!

This is Dazzle? Bleah. I miss the old color scheme.

Also, holy shit, there's something horrifically wrong with the light bloom for me. Like, you have to see it to believe it wrong. The bloom's been turned up to a thousand and there's bright colors around the edges.

I like the idea of muting out high-detail avs (and ESPECIALLY scoring, gonna use that lots), but I imagine quite a few full-prim av vendors (like people who make feral avatars) getting a rash of shit from people complaining "it dont look like teh advertisment pichur!!1" because they left Dazzle on the high fps club setting.

As far as scoring is concerned, it's not just attachments... if you're building anything you could attach it to yourself to score it. Just an idea though. My next Tetra update is gonna involve a lot of optimization using this since it's already an attachment sailboat.

Look! This is what bloom looks like for me now.

My poor water. And windows. And lamps. And sunbeams...

I had a problem similar to this (if not the same problem) where the 1.19.1 viewer griefed up the glow settings.

Found this on Jira: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5396

Quote:
Update: accessed from debug setting window, the default for RenderGlowStrength was set for 2.00 from clean install,
after clicking the "set default" button returns back to 0.350.
This fixed the problem for me. The blow screenshot was what it looked like (gave me a fucking migraine).

Oh, hey, thanks. Resetting the glow strength to default fixed things, and my ocean no longer looks like it belongs in some garish club. I do hope I won't have to do this every time I log in, though.

Really the strangest thing to me is "This and all subsequent releases will be referred to as “1.20″ or “1.21″. There will be no more smaller numbered feature releases as we’ve used in the past (e.g., 1.19.0.5, 1.19.1.4)." I always thought that when they bumped 1.X to 1.Y that meant it was a required update. Or are all releases going to be mandatory?

I've had my first taste of the new client, and I must say my impressions are mixed. For the most part I agree with the original post.

I don't mind the icon and button changes so much, however I wish that they would provide us with several options to begin with. The colors do not suit me in the least, and I'm finding some things are more difficult to read. Some of the windows are also more distracting.

While there are some positive changes, I can't help but feel many of the visual changes were changes for the sake of making changes, such as the box around the startup bar.

I do enjoy the new options, such as the avatar rendering costs. It seems in all my usual forms I am somewhat costly, at around 2500.

The viewer did crash shortly after my first log in. I do hope this isn't a sign that it will prove to be less stable than the current regular client.

Regarding the problem you mentioned earlier, have you attempted to turn off the Windlight shaders?

Of course it would be best if Windlight worked fine, but if it is causing so much trouble you'd rather use a non-Windlight client, turning off the shaders should achieve that effect.

This avatarcost thing is going to cause a mighty ruckus. All kinds of attachments will easily push that number skyhigh and now you're going to have trumped up cost police bitching about everything. Say goodbye to your favourite attachments/avatars if they have quite a few prims.

Good. The non powers of two thing was pretty sad, that's some serious legacy junk. PNG doesn't make much difference as it will just be like using TGA but more format support is nice.

I guess it depends on what the attachments are and what people believe a high number is. I do not think it counts by prims alone.

Most people are completely unaware of what we bitch about in the forums! If we mattered there would no nightclubs, sploders, 'hootchie hair', camping etc. etc.

But now it's going to swing the other way. They are metering something that has been guesswork for years and sticking an arbitary number on it, I can see a lot of sims enforcing caps on avatar cost for performance.

Most of the menus don't work for me on OS X 10.5. Maybe all. I can't be arsed to check.

UnDazzle the Dazzle.

Ok I made a colors.xml file which darkens dazzle as best as I can manage. It's not perfect but you wont get eye bleed now

See picture attached. The SL windows are less transparent when selected.

You will need to rename my colors.xml.txt file to colors.xml
(Note for Windows users: by default windows will hide the .txt extension you will need to change your settings to make it show.)

Then you will need to find the colors.xml file on your computer in the Second Life Release Candidate/app_settings folder. Then back it up and replace it with my attached colors.xml. Also keep a copy of my colors.xml if you like it in case SL overwrites it.

Do not touch colors_base.xml If you do reinstall the SL client.

Since I have done this on Linux someone else can make a Windows and/or Mac walk-through if they wish.

EDIT: Click this for a better view:

To stave off any complaints.

Problems I encountered:

* Drop boxes (eg. Communicate popup menu) background is always white
* Changing Button/Tab shades also affected other icons (eg. building , scripted, no push, L$ button, tick boxes). So I made a compromise between dark buttons but still legible icons.
* Some background graphics can't be changed from light blue (eg. lower login screen, local chat background)

Ok, this is interesting. It puts a number above every avatar's head, representing how "costly" they are to render. It's color coded too. I'm over 2000 and red :/

Probably the 70 prim flexi hair...
Thanks for the post, and breakdown. Very useful.

Concerning the 'cost' of rendering an AV...man, I must be way up on that list. The detail on my HAV unit is frightening. I forget how many prims I have on me (not using the leg attachments), but it's damn high.

When I first tried it morning, it was just crashing on camera-movement. but meanwhile it crashes on connecting.

I could try and go with a clean install, in case something got screwed, but to be honest, I can't be bothered...it was an ugly client anyhow.

I guess I'll try again with the next Version.

Anti-aliasing does not work on my mac either. The entire world is covered with a yellow haze that waves like the water and if i zoom var out i can see the buttons from the bottom bar waving in there too.
